THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- April 30 marks the deadline for entering this year’s Feed the Dragon Village Challenge. The friendly competition among villages targets litter on pathways and natural areas in The Woodlands.

Individuals, clubs, schools, scouts and families can earn points for their village by pledging to keep The Woodlands litter-free. Besides the feel-good factor, all participants are entered into a drawing for over $1,000 in prizes sponsored by Bikeland.

“Our community and the environment are the biggest winners,” said Kathie Herrick, Adopt-a-Path coordinator for the Community Associations of The Woodlands. “Even the minutest of litter—cigarette butts and candy wrappers—impacts the aesthetics of our community and harms wildlife,” she said. Research shows that 20 percent ends up in streams and waterways.

To view guidelines for the Feed the Dragon Village Challenge and print a clean-up log at the Community Associations Web site; click on the Earth Day link and go to Village Challenge. Logs are also available at local libraries and Community Association offices. For more information, please call Kathie Herrick at 281-210-3900.

Feed the Dragon is an annual competition sponsored by the Community Associations and The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N.
