THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Green is IN—globally, nationally and locally. The Woodlands Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The Woodlands High School makes it easy to go green! This year’s theme, It’s all connected, focuses attention on personal actions that make a big difference.

“Green living, energy efficiency and sustainability are all over the media. The festival brings those concepts home with easy tips for busy lifestyles,” said Lynne Aldrich, festival spokesperson and manager of Environmental Services for the Community Associations of The Woodlands.

More than 70 exhibitors and activities will showcase green trends, share conservation tips, highlight energy-saving technology and reveal the diversity of nature. Displaying wildlife of the Gulf Coast Region, Butterfly Enthusiasts of Southeast Texas and Help Endangered Animals: Ridley Turtles will provide a live connection with nature.

Offering solutions for water conservation, EnviroMedia presents Water IQ, a state-of-the-art, hands-on exhibit. From green remodeling and rainwater harvesting to alternative energy and organic products, Earth Day has something for everyone!

Promoting the elegance of sustainability, the Buy Recycle Boutique will premier its spring line of innovative products made from recycled plastic under the Green Living banner. Refreshments, cloth shopping bags, fair trade teas, coffee and chocolate, native plants and other earth-friendly products will be for sale from non-profit organizations and eco-businesses.

“Being earth-friendly is more than a slogan; it’s a lifestyle,” said Ms. Aldrich. “The festival proves that it is fun and easy to be green.”

Free games, crafts and hands-on activities will connect kids to the earth-friendly, conservation message. Inviting youngsters to climb aboard and explore, Ms. Frizzle will bring the Magic School Bus™ to the event while Liberty Mutual holds a bicycle rodeo to teach safety on the road.

Celebrating the environment, the festival stage comes to life with a full day of music, dance and performance featuring Lucas Miller, Anjali Dancers and The Pipers, while the Rock Wall will enable the adventurous to enjoy a climbing experience and get a bird’s eye view of the event.

Earth Day is organized by Community Associations of The Woodlands and The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. and hosted by Conroe Independent School District. The festival and most activities are free of charge, thanks to the generous support of sponsors—Waste Management, The Woodlands Development Company, The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency, Liberty Mutual and others.
