Indoor Fun at Tekno Games

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Video games are a prominent part of culture, especially to adolescent boys and even adult males. Spending hours in front of screen alone playing Halo or World of Warcraft can become lonely. However, Tekno Games provides an alternative to playing one's favorite games alone. Providing a fun and safe atmosphere, Tekno Games is a place where gamers can play and interact with other gamers while making friends who share a common interest.

Located in the Alden Bridge shopping center between Rico’s and Kroger’s at 8000 Research Forest, it was founded by Pip Bailey, a local mom, in June 2008. Bailey found inspiration from her son, who is also a gamer.

“He got involved in a gaming center when he was about 12 years old,” Bailey said. “He had been sitting in front of the computer playing video games alone for quite some while, and I really wanted him to get out and experience some camaraderie and other kids. He started making friends who had common interest like him and that was my inspiration.”

Tekno games offers over 200 computer games. Parents do not have to worry about controversial or inappropriate games such as Grand Theft Auto, as kids are blocked from playing mature rated games based on their age. Gamers are also monitored by cameras and a commercial grade firewall.

“Basically, I feel that your children are monitored here more on the computer than they would be at home,” Bailey said.

Tekno Games offers summer camps to keep kids busy in the summer in a safe environment. Ranging from "how to create a video game" to improving ones gaming skills, the camps are fun and informative. There will be seven week-long camps held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a variety of sessions to choose from.

Youth groups can also earn money by letting Tekno Games host parties and lock-ins. Depending on how long a group pays, the more money they raise for their church.
