Apple Announces iPad

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Apple announced it's latest creation, the iPad, on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at a press conference in San Francisco. The iPad is a touch-screen tablet that is WiFi enabled with a 3G version also available. The new device serves as an e-reader, lets you browse the web, check email, play movies, work on documents/presentations and listen to music.

Similar to the popular iPhone, their is an App Store and you can sync previous purchased apps from your iPhone to the iPad. In addition to the apps store, you can also download books, magazines and newspapers from Apple's newly announced iBooks app.

Pricing
Pricing on the WiFi only iPad is: $499 for a 16 GB, $599 for a 32 GB and $699 for a 64 GB and will be available in late March. The iPad with 3G adds $130 the price ($629 for a 16GB, $729 for a 32 GB, and $829 for a 64 GB), but 3G models won't be available until April. Service for the 3G iPad will be $15 a month for up to 250 GB worth of data or $30 a month for unlimited data. The 3G subscriptions will be month to month with no contract and will have access to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots for free.

Specs
The iPad weighs 1.5 pounds (1.6 pounds for the 3G version), is 9.56 inches by 7.47 inches and is half an inch thick. It runs on a 1GHz Apple A4 custom-designed, chip and has a high-resolution, 9.7 inch LED-backlit, IPS display. Apple claims that the iPad's battery will last up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music. There an earphone jack, built-in speakers and a microphone. The iPad, like the iPhone and iPod Touch, features an accelerometer for the screen to display in landscape or portrait.

Accessories
Apple also announced some accessories for the iPad: a dock with a full-size keyboard, camera connection kit and a case that can also be used as a viewing stand.
