Donations sought from Community and Medical Professionals

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Dr. Mila McManus, founder of The Woodlands Institute for Health and Wellness, is sponsoring a drive collecting medical items for the "Haiti Medical Mission." Donations are sought from both the community-at-large and medical professionals.

Haiti experienced the catastrophic earthquake Jan. 12 and by Jan. 24 there were at least 52 aftershocks estimating more than 3 million people to be affected by the quake. Early February Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive reported more than 200,000 people were dead, 300,000 injured and more than 2 million people homeless.

"There are many people who are sponsoring drives for Haiti and we just want to do what we can also," Mila McManus, MD said, founder of The Woodlands Institute for Health and Wellness. "As they have reported, Haiti was in poor condition prior to the earthquake and now the area is completely devastated. It is going to take a long while for the area to recover. We are asking both the community and medical professionals to donate."

Dr. McManus points out that items needed most are simple everyday items that many take for granted, but are in high demand in Haiti. In addition, more sophisticated items are also sought.

"We will send boxes of supplies to Haiti, hopefully many boxes with everyone's support, the first week of March," Dr. McManus said. "We will host the drive through February, but if we get a great turnout, may extend the drive and continue sending support as the supplies are donated. If other medical professionals would like to join us, we would welcome the help."

Items (listed below) can be donated at The Woodlands Institute for Health & Wellness located at 26110 Oak Ridge Drive in The Woodlands. For those unable to bring items in, but would like to donate, please call Kim Beale or Sandy Booker to schedule a product pick up from your location by calling 281.298.6742.

The Woodlands Institute for Health & Wellness is hosting an Open House at their location Feb 25, 5-8pm, and all are welcomed to attend and bring items to be donated at that time as well.
