THE WOODLANDS, Texas - And then there was one.

Only one all-star team from Oak Ridge/Woodlands Area Little League is still playing baseball. The 9-10 ORWALL National team won the Section 2 Tournament and advance to the Texas East State Tournament beginning Saturday in Tyler.

ORWALL National opens the double-elimination tournament at 8 p.m. Saturday with First Colony American. The winner advances to an 8 p.m. semifinals game. The state championship game is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday. A second title game, if necessary, would be played at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The Texas East Little League was created in 2002 as a result of Little League Baseball asking that the state of Texas be split into two entities; Texas East and Texas West. Texas East stretches from the Sabine River in the east to I-20 in the north, I-35 on the west to San Antonio, and from there I-181 to the Gulf of Mexico and back to the Sabine River.

ORWALL fought through the loser’s bracket to advance to the Section 2 Tournament championship game and defeated Barbers Hill twice to take the title. After dropping the tournament opener 5-1 to Nederland, ORWALL National won four games in four consecutive days.

Finding their bats after the disappointing opener, ORWALL National scored 51 runs over the final four games, including a 17-5 revenge victory over Nederland and a 17-6 thumping of Barbers Hill in the championship game.

The team is coached by Bryan Hines and the roster includes Jake Brehm, Jaeden Camstra, Hunter Hines, Oscar Kanada, Troy Kruchten, Ryan McWhirter, Joey Presutti, Michael Shields, Shane Sirdashney, David Skillern, Luke Trahan, Travis Washburn, and Cameron Wood.

The ORWALL National Big League All-Star team fell 9-7 to Louisiana in the championship game of the Southwest Regional Tournament in Ruston, La. The Louisiana team advances to the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C. The tournament will be televised by ESPN.

The Big League all-stars won district, section and state tournaments en route to the Southwest Regional. Cody Althouse, Michael Molina, Connor Sarant, Zach Winterer, Danny Abke and Pat Young all had two hits each in the championship game. In addition, Moses Molina doubled and Cody Crowson drove in a run.

Kyle Broussard, Blake Stoehr, Ryan Farley, Nathan Wall, and Taylor Booker were also among the big hitters while Josh Smith, Farley, Crowson and Young pitched well throughout tournament play.

The ORWALL Junior, Major, and Minor All-Star teams all won District 28 titles and all advanced to the Section 2 semi-finals of their respective tournaments.
