THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Rotary International District 5910 (Bryan to Beaumont; Galveston to Palestine) is offering a unique travel opportunity to 4 young business or professional people (25 – 40 years old) who live or work within it. The Woodlands Rotary club would love to sponsor such a professional from within our club area.

It’s an all-expenses-paid, month-long overseas trip next Spring (April 11 – May 9, 2011), as a member of our Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team. The GSE Team will spend a month traveling throughout our partner Rotary District 1930 in picturesque southwestern Germany (the “Black Forest region”). Visit that district’s Web site at the link below and see examples of the beauty.

GSE trips are unique, because each team member will live in the homes of German Rotarians as their guests. Typically each host family houses only one team member.  The duration of the stay ranges from 2-3 days up to a week. Most team members make lasting friendships among their host families.

During the day the team will visit community places of interest and vocational sites that match the team members’ interests. The team will attend local Rotary Club meetings and give presentations about themselves and our region of Texas.

Interested yet? This offer is part of Rotary International’s effort to promote understanding among people everywhere. Rotarians worldwide contribute funds that make this possible.

To learn more, go to our district Web site at the link below. On the lower right hand side of the home page, click on “GSE Teams.” At that page you can open the “GSE Brochure” that gives the criteria for selection. To apply, download the “Team Member Application” and send it at the e-mail button below.

In case an employer has misgivings about doing without a valuable employee for a month, the following from the GSE Brochure may be persuasive:

What are the benefits to my employer and my community?
GSE enhances the international perspective of the next generation of young leaders that will take your company into the future. GSE participants return with new communication and facilitation skills that promote tolerance and collaboration with professional people of other cultures. GSE fosters a creative approach to problem solving by expanding the employee’s skill set, exposure to alternate methodologies, and preparation for addressing community needs. In addition, GSE provides a great public relations opportunity to promote awareness of your business or organization, as local and international media may feature interviews, photos, and articles about the exchange.

Applications are due by September 30. The team will be selected in October and begin to prepare for the experience of a lifetime.

Four or more people will be selected for this GSE Team. One of them could be you! We hope you’ll apply.
