THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Angel Thompson, a senior at The Woodlands College Park High School and a player for The Woodlands Girl’s High School Lacrosse team, has committed to playing for the Duke University Blue Devils in Durham, North Carolina for the 2011-2012 school year, according to Randy Brim, President of The Woodlands Girls Lacrosse. The Duke Blue Devils is a NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse team.

“Duke has one of the best powerhouse programs in the country. This is an incredible accomplishment,” said Brim. “What’s even more remarkable is that that Angel has been focused on playing for Duke since she started lacrosse in the 6th grade.”

Thompson’s accolades are numerous, including 2011 Aggieland Classic Tournament, Most Valuable Player Varsity Defense; U.S. Lacrosse 2010 High School Academic All-American; selected to the U.S. Women’s Division National Tournament Team representing Texas – 2010 and 2009; selected to the 2010 Intercollegiate Women’s Coaches Lacrosse Association Champion’s Cup / Capital Cup Team representing Texas; Texas Girls’ High School Lacrosse League 2010 All-State Goal Keeper; 2009 The Woodlands Girls Lacrosse Association Most Valuable Player; Varsity Lacrosse Letter/Starter: 2010, 2009, and 2008; and 2011 Varsity Captain.

Recently, The Woodlands Girl’s Lacrosse Varsity team placed 2nd among twenty-five teams in the Annual Texas A&M Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, where Thompson was selected as the Defensive MVP of the tournament. “Angel is a very talented goal tender and overall athlete, who has anchored our varsity defense since 2008. A number of talented players in our league are going off next year to play at the collegiate level, and it’s great for The Woodlands and the State of Texas to see them get picked up by quality programs like Duke,” said Jim Maiziale, Head Coach of The Woodlands Girl’s High School Lacrosse team. “Angel is serving as a great role model for younger players who share the same dream of playing lacrosse as part of their college experience.”

Academically, Thompson is an AP scholar, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the National English Honor Society. She plans to study Environmental Science at Duke University.

Thompson is very proud of playing for The Woodlands and looks forward to going to Duke. “The Woodlands has always been such a supportive team, and I have loved growing up with such amazing teammates and coaches,” said Thompson.
