Coburn added to Strykers staff
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Strykers 2013 season is just around the corner and the Texas Collegiate League baseball team has added Matt Coburn as an assistant coach.
Coburn is a diverse individual that has quite a few years in baseball both as a player and coach. Coburn was raised in Humble, Texas, and is a graduate of Humble High School.
As a player, he was drafted in 2005 by the Los Angeles Dodgers and then by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2006. He played two seasons of independent ball for the Houston Toros and Normal Cornbelters.
Coburn has about four years of coaching experience at both Concordia University and San Jacinto Community College.
“We are thrilled to have Matt join the Strykers,” team owner and general manager Ramiro Lozano said. “We had a crazy month on the coaching front but going into it we wanted to find great individuals that would work well for our team.
“I am so glad to have a coach like Matt join our team, his background with working with pitchers is a main reason we brought him in.”
The Strykers are looking for three more host families for the 2013 season. The season will begin on May 30 against the Victoria Generals. The Strykers will have a four-game homestand to begin the season from May 30-June 2 against the Generals and East Texas Pump Jacks.
