Strykers add two more to roster

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Two more players have signed on to play for the Woodlands Strykers this season. The Strykers came to terms with Zach Heard and Robert Heep. These two will be on the field when the team kicks off the 2013 Texas Collegiate League baseball season against the Victoria Generals on May 30.

Heard is in his first season for Cisco Junior College. So far he was pitched 4.2 innings in five games while striking out five batters.

Last season at The Woodlands Christian Academy,Heard was a Second team All-Montgomery County selection. He also threw two no-hitters. He went on to be named Second Team All-Greater Houston, First Team All-State, All-State Tournament Team and District MVP.

He is pursuing a degree in business.

Heep is a San Antonio native, who is in his first season with Wharton County Junior College.

Heep is the son of Danny Heep, who played 13 seasons in the Major Leagues for the Houston Astros, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves. He won two World Series rings, one with the Mets and Dodgers respectfully. He is currently the head coach at University of the Incarnate Word.

Heep played high school ball at Reagan High School in San Antonio where he was a first-team all-district outfielder.

The Strykers will begin their 2013 season on May 30 against the Victoria Generals. The Strykers will have a four-game homestand to begin the season from May 30-June 2 against the Generals and East Texas Pump Jacks.
