THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Michael Gerber threw for 216 yards and five touchdowns to lead The John Cooper School football team to a 48-0 victory at home Saturday over the Northside Lions.

Gerber threw a pair of 13-yard touchdown passes to Sam Hodges then fired touchdown passes of 30 and 45 yards to Iker Pimienta and the Dragons led 27-0 at halftime. Pimienta now has seven touchdown receptions this season.

Gerber continued the aerial assault in the second half, firing a 31-yard scoring strike to Clark Hyde, before scoring on a 1-yard run. Spencer Katterhagen completed the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Clark Hyde led the Dragons’ ground attack with 74 rushing yards on eight carries and Matt Jacobson successfully booted six PAT kicks.

The Dragons’ defense was equally dominating, intercepting four passes while holding the Lions to four first downs and 89 total yards. Parker Wooden and Alec Mitchell led the defense in tackles while Katterhagen, Alex Farley, Hunter Cogdell and Sam Hodges each collected an interception.

“I am so proud of all the players and coaches, that was the school’s first win versus a varsity team and it was a team effort,” Dragons head coach Brent Landrum said. “The defense held Northside to under 100 total yards and shut them out. They gave the offense great field position all night long.”

The Dragons (2-2) travel to meet the Kinkaid junior varsity for a 6 p.m. Thursday game.

“The team is really coming together and they are trusting each other,” Landrum said. “They understand their assignments and they are executing them well. I am looking forward to the rest of the year. This team could do special things.”
