CONROE, Texas -- Conroe Independent School District reports on campus updates for The Woodlands area schools from October 9-15.

Broadway Elementary School

On Friday, October 4, the following children were inducted into the Broadway Hall of Fame: Gavin Richardson, Bridget Carney, Jacob Schultz, Adin Jarusinsky, Sebastian Segura, Ciarra Lewis, Carson Cleveland, Luke Stratton, Makayla Santiago,Reagan MacIntyre, Lucy June, Madison Jones, Debbie Sullivan, Brendan Villareal, and Aidan Chandler. They will participate in the Walk of Fame on Friday, November 1 with Mocha leading the parade.

The following students received Principal High Fives Katalyna Fajardo, Erik Reichmeider, Eli Washam, Kylie Bartusek, Chloe Walters, Jasmine Lewis, Bella Evans, Madison Bauer, Sophia Winston, Jasmine Wu, Nathan Marquez, Diego Guzman, Connor Hague, Nathaniel Wollard, Olivia Singleton, Noah Chamberlain, Chase Isimang-Pugh, and Alynna Haggadone.

Buckalew Elementary School

On October 10, families are welcome to attend Open House for all grade levels from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

On October 11, students and their families can participate in National Walk to School Day. Please join your child in walking, biking, roller-blading, or riding a scooter to school that day!

The CISD Coat Drive will take place October 14-18. Please place lightly or new used coats, jackets or sweaters to donate in the marked boxes in school lobby.

Collins Intermediate School

The PTO meeting on October 14, 2013 will be at 1:15 p.m.

Early Release will be on Friday, October 18 at 12:45 p.m.

The Fall Frenzy Punt, Pass, Kick Tournament was a success with over 60 teams participating. Wow! The winners are were: Boys League First Place - Triple Cheese Heads - Cade Rabson, Andrew Long, Andrew Griffino; second Place Brass Monkeys Dylan Hazen, Carson Nolen, Zach Cruz; third Place - Packers - Andrew Lutz, Hudson Ildebrando, Neal Basi. Girls League FirstPlace - Great Whites - Angels Merino-Soler, Erica Flynn; second Place - Fabulous Trio - Isabel Snyder, Anahi Avila, Sarah Wisenbaker; third Place - Hippos - Marina Oliveira, Isla Garza, Mariana Zendejas.

Cox Intermediate School

Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. David Elementary School

Students, parents and staff will be participating in The College Park High School Spirit Parade on Wednesday, October 9, at Woodforest Bank Stadium, beginning at 6 p.m. Come out and join the fun!

Deretchin K-6 School

The Boosterthon fundraiser kicked off October 2 and will continue until the Fun Run finally on October 11. This program is a healthy alternative to traditional product sales that helps raise much needed funds for our school and promotes fitness, leadership, and character throughout the entire experience.

Don't forget to collect those box tops and send them in by October 14!

PTO Volunteers are needed in the copy room. Sign up at http://vols.pt/U9oA2i. We encourage all parents to joing the PTO. There are many needs and a variety of events that allow for every parent to get involved and enjoy partnering with your child's school.

Ford Elementary School

A huge thank-you goes to Home Depot, Store #6516 for donating six large student planter boxes to be used by science classes!

Galatas Elementary School

Reading week will be October 14-18, as will the Book Fair. The theme this year is “Reading Oasis”. There will be reading challenges, prizes and theme days throughout the week to celebrate and encourage reading.

Glen Loch Elementary School

Walk to School Day is coming soon on Thursday, October 10.

The Gator Run Kickoff and Pep Rally is Friday October 11.

The Chili Cook-off for Gator Run is on Friday October 11 from 7-9 p.m.

Third and fourth grade students are having fun skating in their gym classes while learning a new skill and getting exercise.

Fourth graders have finished preparing the school garden boxes for their plants.

The library is now open during active start in the mornings before school. A room for homework help and a silent reading room are also open daily during active start.

The Parent Teacher Organization needs many volunteers for Gator Run which is coming in early November.

In music, the choir started practicing for their concert in January and fourth graders have already started practicing in music for their concert which is coming in December.

Hailey Elementary School

Students, staff, and parents will participate in The Woodlands College Park High School Homecoming Parade Wednesday, October 9, at 6 p.m. at Woodforest Stadium. Participants are encouraged to bring a red wagon and wear red Hailey spirit shirts.

Thursday, October 10 is Skate Night at Sk8 Town on Rayford Road. Students, family members, and friends can skate at 6-8:30 p.m.

Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.

Houser Elementary School

October 9 is Individual Picture Day.

October 15 will be the PTO Meeting at 6 p.m.

From October 21-25 there will be a Fall Book Fair.

October 24 is the Reading Night 5:30-7 p.m.

Knox Junior High School

Announcing the new Create Club, The club will meet with Mr. Peake in Room 204 on Tuesday afternoons from 4-5 p.m.

Congratulations to Gabby DuBeau. Gabby was chosen Student of the Week for September 23-27.

The following students are running for Student Council officers. President Candidates: Emily Brustein, Josephine Harras, Vishnu Sajit, and Ben Scarborough. Vice-President Candidates: Destini Foreman, Katie Kirkpatrick, Griffin Kieger, Dylan Mitchell, and Heather Worth. Eighth Grade Delegates: Devin Metzger and Bailey Shepard. Seventh grade Vice-President: Saadia Khan. Seventh Grade Delegates: Nathan Talley and Zackary Allen Villarreal.

The Coats for Kids Drive will be hosted September 30 – October 28. Bring in your gently used items to help those in need.

Picture retake day is October 17.

The Elite Member of the First Lego League are: Amy Chung, Alexy Koutner, Kailynn Fong, and Stephanie Du. Congratulation to Alyx Salazar for placing second in the BAM (Because Art Matters) drawing contest at The Woodlands Mall the weekend of September 28-29. Alyx was in competition with many other Conroe Independent School District students and was required to complete a still life in one hour. Congratulations Alyx!

Lamar Elementary School

Thank you to all the police and firefighter volunteers for coming to talk about community helpers! The students did a great job with their Fall Fundraiser! Thank you to everyone who participated in Walk to School!

McCullough Junior High School

McCullough student, Gabrielle Dufrene, won third place at the Because Art Matters (BAM!) Fast Draw contest at The Woodlands Mall. Sixty-three junior high students from Montgomery County participated.

The first meeting of the McCullough Game Club will be on October 9 at 4 p.m. in the downstairs library. The club will meet monthly. Since the club meets after school, permission forms must be submitted by students who plan to join. Permission forms are available in the Counseling Center.

Mitchell Intermediate School

The Scholastic Book Fair will be in the Mitchell Library October 7-17. The book fair is open daily from 8 – 4:30 p.m. The book fair will be open until 7 p.m. on the nights of October 15 and October 17. Janet Tashjian, author of My Life as a Book, My Life as a Stuntboy, and My Life as a Cartoonist, will be presenting to the Mitchell Intermediate fifth and sixth graders on the afternoon of Monday, October 14 beginning at 1:45 p.m.

Fifth grade Open House for LCs 1, 2, and 3 will be hosted on October 15. Times will be alphabetical according to students' last names. Names from A – L will be from 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. Names from M – Z will be from 6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.

Oak Ridge Elementary School

PTO Fundraiser money and order forms are due Friday, October 11.

Powell Elementary School

Fall Book Fair continues through Friday, October 11.

Family Night will be on Thursday, October 10 from 5-7 p.m.

Ride Elementary School

TWCP Spirit Parade/Pep Rally will be at Woodforest Stadium Wednesday, October 9 at 6 p.m. Come and see the Sally K. Ride Red Wagon Challenger Float. Support CPHS and Sally K. Ride by wearing your Sally K. Ride Shirt. CISD and CPHS are providing a great opportunity for parents and families to come out and support their community. Stadium opens for seating at 5:30 p.m.

Iwalk to School Day is on Thursday, October 10 go green, iwalk, go challengers! Sally K. Ride will participate in the International Walk to School Week, Thursday, October 10. All students are invited to walk or ride a bicycle to school. All students are also invited to go green...wear green on October 10 too. Sally K. Ride is working in partnership with the Community Association of the Woodlands. Leave your car at home, leave the bus empty, go green! It's easy being green!

Snyder Elementary School

Thursday, October 10 will be our Watch D.O.G. Kick-off. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and will last about 45 minutes. Food will be provided. Registration for Watch Dogs and other info is on our website. PTO will be also meeting before the meeting at 6 p.m.

The Woodlands College Park High School

TWCP's PTO recognized a group of students with a “Swords of Success” pin and certificate this past week. These students are picked from the faculty and staff for outstanding character, good deeds, improved behavior or other areas that those students demonstrated. TWCP will be celebrating the 2013-2014 Homecoming the week of October 7-11 and finishing up with the Homecoming Dance on October 12. This year's theme is “An Evening In Oz”. We will start off the week with Spirit days, Monday: Match-Up Monday, Tuesday: Tourist Tuesday, Wednesday: Wildlife Wednesday, Thursday: Throwback Thursday and Friday: Mum and Garter Friday. The Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally will be on October 9 at Woodforest Stadium beginning at 6 p.m. The parade and pep rally is open to the community.

TWCP is proud to announce their 2013-2014 National Merit Semi-Finalists, Acheivment Scholars and Honorable Mention. Congratulations to our 2013-2014 National Merit Commended students! The Woodlands High School

We are very proud to announce that eleven (11) of our seniors have been honored for their scores on the PSAT taken as a junior. They have been named as National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists. The students are John Beetz, Imran Bell, Rebecca Curtis, Zachary Ireland, Bjorn Johnson, Robert Kerins, Christopher Kessinger, William Kuo, Gibraan Rahman, Liam Tobin and Chester Wang. Their scores place these eleven seniors in the top 1% of all students taking the PSAT. All of these students are now entered into the competition to be named as a Finalist.

Tim Nysetvold, The Woodlands High School Class '12, earned the State AP Scholar Award for his extraordinary performance on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams. He is one of 108 students nationwide to receive this honor. Tim's older brother earned the Virginia State AP Scholar Award five years prior. “The College Board, a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity, has conferred this distinction on one male and one female in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia. Qualifying students must have the highest average score (at least 3.5) on all A.P. exams taken,” reads the AP literature. In addition, Tim is also a National AP Scholar, which is earned by scoring 4 or higher on at least eight exams. Tim, who is now a freshman at Brigham Young University majoring in engineering, took 25 AP exams over the course of three years, earning a mean score of 4.92. He scored the highest possible score (5) on all but two of the exams, which he scored a 4 on both. Brigham Young University accepted 130 credit hours for his tests. The District is proud of Conroe ISD graduate and State AP Scholar Tim Nysetvold!

Tough K-6 School

Coulson Tough students will be participating in National Walk to School Day on October 9. International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. Parents are encouraged to join their students as they bike or walk to school.

Coulson Tough's Fall Festival will be held on October 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This will be the only fall fundraiser and we are looking forward to having a great time with our students, families and staff. There will be lots of activities for everyone in the family along with a live auction.

Vogel Intermediate School

Vogel Intermediate Student Council recently held elections for the 2013-14 school year. Nominations were held by student council members. The nominees then made posters, campaigned and students then voted for the positions. The students are excited and ready to get busy with their duties. Officers for this year are -- President, Camille Cox -- Vice President, Briana Stunda -- Secretary, Camellia Adams -- Treasurer, Emma Baskin -- Historian, Kylee Kelly. Congratulations to these students!

The Vogel Dance Team is ready to begin learning their dance routines for the year. The sponsors for the dance team are Mrs. Angela Waskow, Mr. Wade Haymark and Mrs. Jane Mann. The students, who were interested in trying out, learned a routine over a two week period. Tryouts were then held and selected judges made the final decisions. The dance team will be performing at various events throughout the school year.

Wilkerson Intermediate School

October is the month of the “upstander” on our campus. The Urban Dictionary defines an upstander as “a person who does what they think is right, even if they are alone.” Wear neon clothing on Thursdays and Fridays in October to remind us to be upstanders!

Band will be having their annual Rock-a-thon on Friday, October 11 from 5- 9 p.m. Students need to provide their own rocking chair, food and games (rated “E”) and get ready to rock the night away!

Art club will be meeting October 16 immediately after school. Please make arrangements for your ride to pick you up at 5 p.m.

October 18 is an early release day for students! Buses will be running on this day. Car riders need to have their ride here by 12:45 p.m.

York Junior High School

Congratulations to Bermoy Lorjkristia for winning first place at the Fast Draw contest at the The Woodlands Mall sponsored by Because Art Matters.

Everyone is invited to attend the first meeting of the Book Club on October 9 after school.

Picture retakes will be October 14 in the library.

Nestfest (aka Yorkapalooza) will be hosted October 12 at ORHS 9 grade campus. This will be a great day of food & fun.
