THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Skip the crowds and long lines -- and head instead to The Woodlands Children’s Museum to start your holiday shopping.

Give a gift that gives back to a local nonprofit that empowers children.

There are several gift ideas and ways to get into the holiday spirit at the museum:

1. Hit the gift shops. The museum has a gift shop offering affordable games and toys – perfect for young creative minds.

Executive director Angela Colton carefully curates the shop for classic toys and fun gift ideas. “We choose items that will stimulate children’s minds and encourage creative play,” she said.

2. Pick up a gift membership. A membership to the museum is a gift that keeps giving all year round. Family memberships are available for $67 and offer a full year of unlimited visits for a family of four, as well as a discount on classes, camps and birthday parties.

Shoppers can also pick up a Day Pass gift certificate for $5 or a Grandparent Yearly Membership for $57. The museum offers $150 Basic Birthday Party certificates or $228 Themed Birthday Party certificates.

3. Show some love for the museum by ordering a fresh wreath. The museum’s annual holiday fundraiser, Wreath Whimsy, provides a chance to support the museum and purchase a lovely, fragrant Fraser fir wreath or centerpiece. Samples are currently on display at the museum. The wreaths are 24-inches, double-faced, freshly grown by a family-owned tree farm and elegantly embellished by museum staff. The price per wreath is $79. There are also table-top arrangements for $29. The sale runs until Dec. 2.

4. Join the Drop and Shop Workshop. While parents finish up their last-minute shopping, children are invited for a fun time at the museum. They can create projects to give as gifts and enjoy milk and cookies. The workshops are scheduled for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, Dec. 23. Admission is $34 for members and $54 for non-members. Also check out the calendar for the Falltivities! and Winter Funcation workshops at the museum.

5. Get your wrapping done at the museum. The Woodlands Children’s Museum offers “Wrap It Up” -- a gift wrapping service -- as a part of its annual holiday fundraising. Deliver your items to the museum Nov. 4 through Dec. 22 and choose from three themed giftwraps: Classic Christmas, Totally Tinsel or Whimsical. Orders will be completed within 48 hours of drop-off.
