THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties, Inc. (JLNHSMC) will present inspirational speaker Liz Murray at their upcoming IMPACT event, on February 8, 2014 at the Woodlands Church. Educators from all over the Houston area are expected to attend, with representation from Conroe ISD, Cy-Fair ISD, Tomball ISD, Klein ISD, Montgomery ISD, Magnolia ISD, Willis ISD, and Spring ISD to name a few.

Liz Murray’s life story was shared with the world in the 2003 Lifetime Television movie, "From Homeless to Harvard". It is an uplifting story of triumph over adversity. Liz was born to cocaine-addicted parents in the Bronx, NY. By the age of 15, her mom had died and she was homeless— living on the streets, riding the subway all night and eating from dumpsters. Determined to take charge of her life, Murray finished high school in just two years while camping out in New York City parks and subway stations. After receiving a scholarship for needy students, she was accepted into Harvard University and received her B.S. in Psychology in June 2009. Her best-selling memoir, Breaking Night, was published in 2010.

“The Junior League is an organization committed to improving our community and helping educators find fresh and creative ways to inspire their students. Our annual IMPACT event provides powerful speakers that address these very important topics,” said Jennifer Bulovas, president of the JLNHSMC.

Ticket purchase and additional information can be found on the JLNHSMC’s website. Educators from Conroe ISD, Cy-Fair ISD, Tomball ISD, Klein ISD, Montgomery ISD, Magnolia ISD, Willis ISD, and Spring ISD are asked to register via their district’s website.
