HOUSTON - The College Park Cavaliers boys basketball team looked to continue their postseason run as they met District-13 champion Atascocita, in the regional quarterfinals of the Class 5A basketball playoffs.

Loss ends magical season at 32-6

In the first quarter both teams were a little timid to start the game, however Keanu Andaya goes for a lay-up and one and the Cavaliers have a 4-3 lead halfway into the first quarter. Atascocita came into tonight winning their last 15 games in a row and began to show why, as they close the first quarter on a 13-3 run. Atascocita gets two three-pointers from Eagle forward and Oklahoma State commit Joe Burton as the Eagles led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Atascocita (28-6) starts out the second quarter with two quick shots in transition giving the Eagles a 13-point lead. Following a College Park timeout, Kyle Robertson drains a three-pointer then Brett Reed gets a lay-up and the the Cavaliers trail 20-12 with 5:20 left in the second quarter.

Atascocita would then close the second quarter on a 15-6 run over the final 5:00 as the Eagles scored on five of their final six possessions to extend their lead to 35-18 lead at halftime.

The Cavaliers (32-6) came out in the second half getting shots by Jayden Holden and Keanu Andaya and suddenly cut the lead to 12-points just 90 seconds into the third quarter. Atascocita then got the offense going through transition and the Cavaliers simply couldn’t match up, as Atascocita got open shots and lay-ups. The Eagles had a 55-36 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Cavaliers couldn’t cut into the deficit anymore than 16-points in the fourth quarter, as Atascocita takes it 78-53 at the Campbell Center in Houston on Tuesday night.

The loss snaps the Cavalier winning streak at 25 games and ends the 2013-14 Cavalier basketball season at 32-6.
