THE WOODLANDS, Texas--The following are Conroe ISD campus updates for May 7 - May 13.

Birnham Woods Elementary School

A big thank you goes out to all of the wonderful volunteers who donated their time, efforts, items, etc. to make our Spring Fling a huge success. We couldn't do it without your help! Your hard work and generosity is very appreciated by all of us here at Birnham Woods Elementary.

Thursday, May 8 will kick off the Second Grade Open House at 6 p.m. followed by the second grade Multicultural performance at 7 p.m. Students are asked to wear either red, white and blue shirts with dark jeans/pants or outfits representing the colors of the country studied in their classroom. There are many upcoming events that are planned throughout the end of the school year. Be on the lookout for flyers with information on ceremonies and class parties.

Parent volunteers are needed during the month of May to assist in the library with reading aloud to classes during inventory. If you have not had the chance to read aloud to your child's class and would like to read one day, please schedule through the Sign-Up Genius link for Parent Readers. This link may be accessed through our Librarian.

Buckalew Elementary School

First grade will hold their Mother's Day Tea on May 5-9 in their classrooms.

Field Day will be held Friday, May 9, with a rain date of May 16. Kindergarten, first and second grades will participate from 8:30-10:45 a.m. and third and fourth grades will participate from 12:30-2:45 p.m. We recommend that all students bring a labeled water bottle, wear tennis shoes, sunscreen, comfortable clothes and a hat if desired. Thank you again to all of the parents who have volunteered to make this event a success. Please remember to access the Field Day information packet through the PE website. This packet contains information about Field Day check-in procedures and event details. Volunteers should arrive 30 minutes prior to their shift.

Bush Elementary School

Teacher Appreciation is this week! On Wednesday make your teacher a card, Thursday bring her a special snack and Friday there will be a BBQ for the staff.

Send in your box tops! Our last Box Top Friday will be on May 9.

The paperback book exchange is coming. Round up your gently used paperbacks to bring in starting Monday, May 12 and “sell” and earn Bush bucks to “buy” more books. This is a great way to get some new reading material for the summer.

Collins Intermediate School

Congratulations to all of our fifth and sixth grade boys and girls who participated in the College Park Fun Run on Tuesday, April 29. You did an amazing job!

Monday, May 5, incoming fifth graders visit Collins. Monday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. incoming fifth grade parent information night.

Wednesday, May 7 at 9 a.m. incoming fifth grade parent information orientation. This is a make-up session from Monday evening.

Wednesday, May 7 incoming fifth grade Fine Arts interview night will be beginning at 4:15 p.m.

The annual David's Dream Run is set for Saturday, May 10, at Woodforest Stadium. This event is held to honor David Vetter's dream to “run barefoot in the grass.” All proceeds from the one mile and 5K run/walk go to the David Center at Texas Children's Hospital. A registration form is attached or you may register online at: www.DolphinWebstore.com.

School supplies for the 2014 - 2015 school year are now available for purchase. This year, you may only order online at www.epipacks.com and enter the school ID, COL006. The deadline to order is Friday, June 6. The EPI packs do not include a binder or the Collins planner. Please pick up your child's school supplies at Collins Express on August 14.

Cox Intermediate School

Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. Deretchin K-6 School

We will be hosting sixth grade parent night on May 8 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Second graders will be showing off their writing skills during Writing Restaurant on May 9.

Join us May 13 for the Choir concert at 8:30 a.m., the band/orchestra concert at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and the evening Choir concert will be held at 6:4 p.m. Our students have worked hard preparing for these shows and we can't wait to see you all here!

Galatas Elementary School

First grade Moms and Muffins will take place on May 8 at 8:45 a.m. First graders will show appreciation for their moms by serving them breakfast and presenting them with gifts made in class.

Third graders will have a “Fossil Dig” in-house field trip on May 12.

Fourth graders will have snake presentation in-house field trip on May 13.

PTO will hold their general meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m.

Glen Loch Elementary School

The book fair is finally here! The book fair will be open on Wednesday, May 7 during school hours. On Thursday, May 8 the book fair will be open during school hours and from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The second grade concert is on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m.

On Friday, May 9 the book fair will only be open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

There is a Wilkerson parent information meeting for future students at Chick-Fil-A on Sawdust at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 9.

The Parent Teacher Organization is selling personalized bricks as an ongoing fund raiser. Buy a brick and be part of school history.

Congratulations to art teacher Mandy Johnson who is the Teacher of the Year and to assistant principal Jerri Butler who is the Humanitarian of the Year.

The Parent Teacher Organization's Beach Party is coming soon to Glen Loch on Friday, May 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. Order next year's school supplies online until June 30. Thank you to Raising Cane's Chicken on Research Forest for donating the proceeds from the last gator takeover to our Parent Teacher Organization.

Hailey Elementary School

The Parent Teacher Association is providing school supplies packets for purchase for next school year. Please watch for paper order forms to come home in Wednesday folders, due May 30. Online ordering is also available through June 30.

Congratulations to all third and fourth graders who participated in the College Park High School Spring Fun Run. Thank you to Physical Education teacher, Mrs. Marriott, who sponsored the students and helped them train for the race.

Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.

Kaufman Elementary School

Thursday, May 8 there will be a PTO luncheon at 10:45 a.m. and a PTO meeting at 1:30 p.m.

Friday, May 9, PE will be hosting the Kaufman Cup stacking Tournament. Third grade will conduct the Envision Program at 1:30 p.m. and there will also be a Teacher Appreciation Celebration program at 1:30 p.m.

We will be celebrating Children's Book Week beginning May 12. Each day the students and staff will be encouraged to show their love of reading and books by participating in daily themes. Monday, May 12 the theme will be “Reading helps dreams come true!” Everyone is encouraged to wear pajamas to school or they may wear blue.

On Tuesday, May 13, end of year benchmark test will be taken by first through fourth grade. We will continue our celebration of reading with the day's theme, “ 'Orange' you glad we love to read!!!?” Everyone is encouraged to wear orange.

Knox Junior High School

The Knox Chamber and Symphony Orchestras competed in the Alamo Showcase of Music in San Antonio this past weekend. The Knox Symphony Orchestra earned straight superior ratings and won best in class for non-varsity orchestras. The Knox Chamber Orchestra blew away the judges with their artistry and maturity of sound for a junior high school orchestra. They earned straight superior ratings and earned best in class for varsity orchestras and then took home the Best Overall Outstanding Ensemble at the festival.

The Speech and Debate team participated in the Conroe Independent School District tournament at Conroe High School. The following students placed in the event: Dana Cadey, second place, poetry; Kaustub Nair, second place, Lincoln Douglas Debate; Qintaar Rafique, second place, Congress; Vishnu Sagit, third place, Congress; Maaz Syed, third place, Lincoln Douglas Debate, third place, Oratory; Sarah Waldrop, first place Lincoln Douglas Debate, first place, Impromptu. Sarah Waldrop also received the Top Speaker Award.

Lamar Elementary School

May 9 is the third grade field trip to the YMCA.

May 9 is the Water Conservation Presentation by fourth grade.

May 13 is the district science benchmark for grades first thru fourth.

McCullough Junior High School

The top three bands attended the Director's Choice Alamo Showcase of Music on Saturday, April 12. The bands took top honors and won Best in Class for the contest.

The Charity League is sponsoring their annual canned food drive. Please bring in non-perishable food, such as cereal, snacks, rice, jelly, canned chicken and tuna as well as baby items to help those in need. Drop off these items in your math class, the library or the front office.

Congratulations to the new 2014-2015 Highland Girls. Mitchell Intermediate School

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will hold their next monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 7, at 9:30 a.m. in the library.

Teacher Appreciation Week will be celebrated May 5-9.

LC 8 will participate in a Field Day on Friday, May 9, on the school grounds.

LC 7 will sponsor “Muffins for Mom and Doughnuts for Dad” on Friday, May 9 at 9 a.m.

Friday, May 9 is the Boys & Girls Pink Night Out. On May 12-16, there will be a Scholastic Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair in the library during school hours.

The Instrument Evaluation night for fourth graders will be held on May 12 and 13 from 5-7:30 p.m.

The school Math Bee will take place in the Mitchell Library on Tuesday, May 13.

We would like to give big congratulations to the following students who were named to the All State TCDA Elementary Honor Choir. Over 700 students auditioned for one of the 180 spots in the choir and we have 11! They are: Andersen McDaniel, Brooke Laden, Lauren Stevens, Olivia Anderson, Olivia Anderson, Madisen Roberts, Kelly Portis, Lizzie Marlow, Mica Swingholm, Katelin Welsh, and Riley Woods. They will travel to San Antonio in July and study with a nationally recognized choral clinician/director and perform with the other students from around the state in front of 1500 choral directors from around the state of Texas!

Oak Ridge High School

Congratulations to all four of the Oak Ridge High School bands that competed at UIL and earned a “Sweepstakes” award by receiving First Division ratings for their Concert performances and their Sight-reading performances. We are so proud of our bands and all of the hard work.

Congratulations Lady War Eagle Softball Bi-District Champions! We are so proud of you!

Congratulations to our State Qualifiers: Mia Hicks for Discus, N'Dia Warren-Jacques for Shot Put, Trumaine Jefferson for High Jump and Long Jump, and for the 4 x 4 Relay: Luke Dorrough, Kaylan Harris, Llewelldyn Jones, and Trumaine Jefferson.

Seniors will be able to purchase or pick up their prom tickets during all lunches starting April 30 through May 9. Senior Prom is on Saturday, May 10 at the Woodlands resort and Conference Center, 8 p.m. until midnight. “After Prom Party” will take place at Main Event from midnight until 6 a.m.

The Oak Ridge High School Talent Show was held on Thursday, April 17. We were entertained by over 20 of the most talented War Eagles we have. Proceeds for this event will go towards the Class of 2014's Senior Celebration “After Prom Party” event. Chase Carr won first place with a Variety Dance Routine, Paige Taylor took second place with a Piano and Song routine to “All of Me” by John Legend, and Sammie Correa clinched third place with a Song routine to “No One” by Alisha Keys.

Peet Junior High School

The Performing Arts club attended the Lamar Consolidated Theatre and Speech Tournament on April 26. They entered over 80 events. Ms. Toni Merritt and Mrs. Melissa Salton are very proud of all the students who attended and competed earning almost 60 superior and excellent awards.

The Algebra end of course (EOC) exam will be administered Tuesday, May 6.

Our campus winners will be honored at the district Teacher and Humanitarian of the Year banquet on Tuesday, May 6 at the Lone Star Convention Center at 5:30 pm. Congratulations to our winners – teachers of the year Lori Jedlicka and Edith Langford, humanitarian of the year Amber DeBeaumont, and friend of education Michelle Speyrer. There will be a retirement reception for Mrs. Cathy Laake in the library at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 7.

The theatre group's Troupe Spring Show is Thursday, May 8. STAAR retests for eighth grade students will begin Tuesday, May 13.

Powell Elementary School

PE class Skating 101 continues through Friday, May 9.

On Thursday, May 8 we will be having our Spring Choir Concert at 6 p.m.

Snyder Elementary School

The Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the Snyder Library May 9 through May 15, 7:35 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. The book fair will also be open May 15 from 3:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Field Day is May 9. Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade will participate from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Third grade and fourth grade will participate from 12:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Delivery of the 2013-2014 Snyder Yearbook will begin May 12.

Second Grade will present their program for parents on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The Woodlands High School

Senior Brent Ifemebi has been chosen as a Gates Millennium Scholar. Run by the Gates Foundation of Bill and Belinda Gates, the Millennium Scholar program chooses 1,000 high school seniors to educational support through college and post-graduate school. In additional to a fully-financed education, Millennium Scholars meet with the Gates Foundation to prepare for lifelong excellence and philanthropic work. The estimated value of the Gates Millennium Scholarship is $1 million dollars.

Wilkerson Intermediate School

The Scholastic Book Fair will be on campus May 5 – May 9. Students may purchase items between 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Orchestra Spring Concerts are scheduled for Monday night, May 5. Fifth grade will perform at 6:30; sixth grade will perform @ 7:15.

Parent/Teacher Organization will meet on campus Wednesday, May 7 at 1:15 p.m.

Choir Spring Concert is scheduled for Monday, May 12 @ 6:30 p.m.

York Junior High School

The Native Speaker Spanish Exam will be given May 7. Students who have returned their permission slips will be given instructions on May 6 as to where they will need to report.

Auditions for Oak Ridge High School Color Guard will be held May 5 to May 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gym at the Senior Campus. The auditions are open to any eighth grader with a great attitude and a willingness to try new things. No previous color guard or dance experience is required.

Maya Duran was awarded second place by the Society of Plastics Engineers for her project in the Junior Division of the Science Engineering Fair of Houston. She will receive an engraved trophy and a monetary award of $250. Her science teacher is Mrs. Rahmaty. Congratulations Maya! We are proud of you!
