Local teens give back with MCEA

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Montgomery County Emergency Assistance (MCEA) is excited to partner with the Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center and the City of Conroe in a program to teach youth entering the 7th and 8th grade about engaging in community programs. The teens will be actively volunteering weekly in the Client Choice Food Pantry, the Odds and Ends Resale Shop, the Donation Warehouse, and various other tasks to learn how their services reflect the community as a whole.

The Totally Teen Program (TTP) operates out of the Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center in Conroe. Teens have opportunities to attend day camp each day during the summer, participating in various activities including 4-H, crafts, swimming, games and much more. In addition to two field trips per week, the teens will also participate in a community service project each week at MCEA.

The youth contributed their talents to the Duck Tagging Party in preparation for the MCEA Great American Duck Race in 2013, and completed tagging 5,000 rubber ducks in 2 hours – a record for the organization. This year MCEA has 6,000 ducks and hopes the youth are up for the challenge. “We are looking forward to working alongside the kids this summer. We hope they learn how “quacky”, fun, and blessed we are to be able to give back to the community”, said Chad Patterson, Executive Director of MCEA.
