THE WOODLANDS, Texas - On November 17, the 8th Highlander Home Run Club Annual Golf Tournament will take place to raise funds for The Woodlands Highlander Baseball Team.

The Highlander Home Run Club, also known as the HHRC, is the booster club for The Woodlands Highlander baseball program and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Unlike other high school sports, the baseball team does not get as much district financing, so the booster club is in charge of raising most of the money.

“The parents, coaches and players take care of the field, so we need this type of money to go toward keeping up the bull pens, keeping up the stands for the fans, stocking quality food in concessions and keeping up the field,” said HHRC Treasurer and Highlander baseball parent, Rob Jennings.

The home baseball field for the TWHS team, Scotland Yard, is in fact located at the McCullough Junior High campus. A nationally recognized field and known as one of the top high school baseball fields in the country, the goal of the HHRC is to continue to improve the venue. It was even ESPN’s “Field of the Year” in 2006.

“The reputation of Scotland Yard is nationally known,” said Jennings. “It benefits the players because this money will go toward uniform purchasing in addition to providing an outstanding environment for both players and fans..”

As Jennings’ 3rd year as Treasurer, he understands the importance and value of the annual golf tournament benefiting the baseball team and the Scotland Yard. Last year’s tournament raised funds that went towards adding seating space, a TV in the concession area, and moving the poles behind home plate to make an open view for all spectators. For this year’s tournament, the goal is to raise $40,000 that will go toward updating the pitching areas on both the home and visitor sides with artificial turf, and updating the signs on the back of the press box which will allow more room for the names of the TWHS athletes and coaches who have been recognized by district, state and nation.

“These projects are very important, and our goal is to cover most of that with this fundraiser,” said Jennings. “This event will allow us to cover our projects in addition to giving us some cushioning if we go to post-season play which is the goal, but can be costly. The tournament helps support the extra travel and meals for the kids.”

This year’s tournament on Monday, November 17, will be held at the Palmer Course at The Woodlands Country Club. The course consists of 27-holes, with room for 54 teams, or 216 players. If people would like to get involved but do not necessarily want to play golf, sponsorships are still available for the tournament and the prices are as follows:
