THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Lady Highlanders sprinted out to a 15-2 lead and finished with a strong run in the fourth quarter en route to a 48-29 district home win over Conroe Friday night.

“The entire year has been a bunch of bumps in the road that we haven’t expected, we know we can’t control the bumps, but we can control our response to the changes. Meghan Musso stepped up and we had great minutes off the bench from Bailey Olson, Meagan McConnell, and Elisa Flores,” said Lady Highlander Head Coach Dana Bruton.

The Woodlands (9-10, 2-1) dictated the tempo early in the game as the Lady Highlanders were 6-for-14 shooting in the first quarter and outscoring Conroe (7-10, 1-2) 15-2 in the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers won the second quarter 13-10 as The Woodlands began to turn the ball over, having 10 turnovers in the first half. Conroe got the deficit within eight right before halftime, but Julia Glandt hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Lady Highlanders an 11-point lead at the break.

However The Woodlands would respond in the second half as the tenacious defense the Lady Highlanders played all night was on display in the second half as The Woodlands limited Conroe to just 14 points in the second half.

Payton Walker led the way for the Lady Highlanders scoring a game-high 13 points including 9-of-12 from the line. Amber Terry and Julia Glandt each scored nine points for The Woodlands, as Luisa De La Rosa chipped in with 8 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lady Highlanders will enjoy a holiday break from district play and compete in the Willis Tournament, December 29-30 before returning to district play on Tuesday, January 6 at Atascocita.
