Cavaliers prevail over War Eagles in double OT

CONROE, Texas - Junior forward Dax Deboer grabbed a loose ball and passed to a streaking McKinley Green for a fast break lay-up at the other end of the floor as College Park edged Oak Ridge 71-67 in double overtime at Oak Ridge Tuesday night.

“Our kids persevered and made some great defensive adjustments in not letting them (Oak Ridge) get into the lane in the overtime period,” said Cavaliers Head Coach Clifton McNeely.

College Park (12-12, 1-2) led by as much as 18 points in the first half and took a 13-point lead into the final quarter. However, miscues on defense and missed free throws allowed Oak Ridge (7-13, 0-4) to get sustain momentum as the War Eagles went on a 12-5 run over the final 4:30 of the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Darius Love hit a three-point shot as time expired in regulation to complete the Oak Ridge comeback and send the game to overtime, tied 59-59. Love finished with a game-high 38 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter alone.

“We made some plays, we played better defensively and the guys made plays to get us back in the game,” said War Eagles Head Coach Neil Laminack.

Both teams couldn’t get the offenses going as they went to a second overtime after just 12 combined points scored in the overtime frame.

Oak Ridge had a chance to tie or take the lead with 45 seconds left in double overtime, however a turnover led to a fast break lay-up for Green on the other end sealed the victory for College Park.
