CONROE, Texas - The Conroe Lady Tigers used hot shooting and several Oak Ridge turnovers en route to a 47-29 district win at Oak Ridge on Friday night.

Oak Ridge shoots 18% in 47-29 loss to Conroe

“They (Conroe) brought it tonight and we just let them take it to us. It was a disappointing effort on our part,” said Lady War Eagles Head Coach Deidre Vasquez.

Oak Ridge (11-20, 3-6) had an opportunity to pull within one game of .500 in the district and make a run at the third or fourth playoff position with a win over Conroe.

However the Lady War Eagles looked flat as they shot 18 percent from the floor for the game and committed 18 turnovers. Oak Ridge was led by Senior guard Kelsey Scibek who scored 13 points while battling the flu.

Conroe (8-17, 2-8) looked like a team on a mission as the Lady Tigers ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run and that sparked the Lady Tigers offense and confidence. Conroe shot 57 percent from the floor in the second quarter and ended the game shooting 45 percent. Conroe played sound offense committing just nine turnovers for the game and gave up no points off those turnovers. The Lady Tigers were led by Junior forward Jordan Allen who had a game-high 19 points.

Oak Ridge went 11:08 in between made field goals from the first basket of the game until Sophomore guard Alyssa Osborne’s jumper from the left-elbow at 4:42 of the second quarter. The Lady War Eagles continued to battle in the second half, however couldn’t get any closer than within 12 points of the Lady Tigers.

“The challenge is Monday and we’ll see how they respond. We’ll see if we took a step back or if they’ll respond,” said Vasquez.

Oak Ridge will travel to first-place Atascocita on Tuesday, February 3, at 7pm.
