MONTGOMERY, Texas - Shelby Dublin and Kelcy Leach each in home runs and Kaitlyn Stavinoha hit an RBI-double to lead The Woodlands Lady Highlanders to a 5-2 victory in game one of their Bi-District playoff best-of-three series over Montgomery on Thursday night.

The Woodlands looks to advance to Area round tonight with Game 2 victory

The Woodlands (23-3) quickly went to work in the top of the first inning when Aubrey Leach got a lead off walk and Stavinoha doubled on a hard ground ball to right field, scoring Leach to quickly give the Lady Highlanders a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Highlanders added to their lead when Shelby Dublin led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run to center field, for a 2-0 Lady Highlanders lead. The Woodlands would score two more runs in the top of the third inning when Kelcy Leach hit a two-run line drive home run to center field scoring Kayla McCallum to open up a 4-0 lead.

The Woodlands once again got great pitching from starter Abby Langkamp as she got the complete game victory giving up just five hits and two earned runs, two walks, and 13 strikeouts.

Montgomery (20-7) scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run and seventh inning, respectively, however the Lady Bears couldn’t muster up enough offense against Langkamp.

The Lady Highlanders scored another run in the top of the seventh inning when Roma Thornton doubled on a line drive to center field scoring Emily Langkamp giving The Woodlands a 5-1 lead.

The Woodlands will look to advance to the area round when they host game two of the best-of-three series on Friday, May 1, at 7pm.
