MUMFORD, Texas -- It was de-ja-vu all over again in Mumford as the Oak Ridge War Eagle (27-1) baseball team shut out the Bowie Bulldogs on one-hit pitching, 2-0 on Friday night to advance to the Region 2-6A semifinal against the Irving-Nimitz/Rockwall winner.

Senior, Luken Baker's no hitter was ruined in the sixth inning by the same Bulldog that got the lone hit in Game 1, Kyle Gray. Not withstanding another good effort by Gray, Baker made quick work of Bowie as evidenced by the clock barely striking nine (9pm) by the time the game had concluded. The big hurler threw a total of 79 pitches, walked one and fanned seven Bulldogs. About his approach tonight, Baker said "just to go out and throw strikes and let my defense work. We have one of the best defenses in the state, in my mind. So as long as I let them work and keep the ball in the zone, we should be good." Baker helped his own cause by going three for three at the plate with three base knocks and scored a run.

Junior, shortstop Michael Lawson went two for three as his batting average continues to skyrocket. Credit Lawson with an RBI and a run scored to boot. In the field, Lawson made a sick play in the hole between third base and shortstop and then a jaw dropping throw to get the runner at first base. Lawson commented after the game, "I stay relaxed and don't put pressure on myself. Even when there's runners on base, just make a hit."

Baker started off the Oak Ridge first inning with a single and promptly scored when Lawson doubled to the right field wall. Anthony Smith then sent a rocket to right center for a double that scored Lawson.

Like Kyle Gray in Game 1, Bowie pitcher, Ryan Long made a good account of himself going the distance striking out five War Eagles, walking just one while surrendering seven hits in giving up two runs in the first frame.

Riley McKnight had the remaining hit for Oak Ridge.

Oak Ridge will be playing Rockwall in a 2 out of 3 series starting Thursday night at 7:30 pm at Baylor University. Game 2 7:30 ON Friday and if necessary Game 3 Saturday 2pm.
