Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson honors heroic citizens

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- In a first of its kind Sheriff Rand Henderson, honored five Montgomery County residents for their heroic efforts to their community and to law enforcement. Below are the two incidents in which citizens were honored for.

Life Saving

On July 5, 2017, at 7:30 pm, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Walden Yacht Club in reference to an attempted suicide.

Upon arrival, Deputies learned that three citizens, Travis Hodges, John Jenkins and John Wesolick were all in the Marina when they witnessed a citizen drive his truck into the water.

Mr. Hodges, Mr. Jenkins, and Mr. Wesolick with little regard for their safety and only concerned with helping a fellow citizen jumped into the water and swam out to the truck in an attempt to aid the citizen. Once to the truck, the three learned that the driver of the truck was depressed and was wanting to kill himself. The three heroic citizens didn’t give up and worked tirelessly as the vehicle was almost completely submerged. Due to their heroic acts and unselfish efforts they were able to pull the citizen from the truck and to the shore.

The citizen who was depressed sustained no injuries and was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

Witness/Armed Robbery

On July 18, 2017, at 10:25 pm, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Taco Cabana in reference to a Robbery in Progress.

While in route to the call, Deputies learned that two very brave citizens, Michael Severini and Cara Lennon were in the drive-thru of the restaurant when they became suspicious that no one greeted them at the drive thru order line. Knowing that the restaurant is open 24/7, they drove around to the front of the store and observed a male wearing a hoodie and holding a handgun pushing Taco Cabana employees toward the back of the store.

Michael and Cara then decided to take action and drove around the store, where they parked and called 911 to report the robbery. Michael and Cara through their brave and unselfish actions, witnessed the robbery suspects exit the store and get into a red passenger car. Michael and Cara continued to take action and followed the suspect vehicle relaying valuable and timely information to responding law enforcement.

Thanks to Michael and Cara’s brave and heroic actions, law enforcement was able to locate the vehicle and arrest the occupants for the aggravated robbery.

Sheriff Henderson comments, “These are the type of citizen partnerships we need and are thankful for. This is community policing and we are so grateful and appreciative of these citizens”.
