THE WOODLANDS, Texas-- The Woodlands High School had a memorable run last season and made it all the way to the state finals against a highly touted Lake Travis team. Unfortunately, it ended with Lake Travis on top and a heartbroken Woodlands team. The Highlanders had a wonderful season and beat some high level teams like Katy in the regular season and Allen in the playoffs.

The first thing to mention for The Woodlands this year is that they lost an enourmus amount of talent but the bright side is that there is still a lot of young talent for The Woodlands and there are a few players who will really be a key to this year's team.

Wide Receiver Kesean Carter is the first player on this list and what reason is there for him not to be? Carter had 48 receptions and more than 900 yards recieving and he also added some rushing numbers with 17 carries and 163 yards and he also added two rushing touchdowns as well. Kesean also committed to Texas Tech earlier this summer.

Another name is Ethan Bonner and he will be one player to really pay attention too. He is one of the best all around cornerbacks in the state of Texas and it will be really fun to watch him play in 2017. Bonner also recently committed to Stanford University.

Another question mark for The Highlanders is who will take the title of "Starting Quarterback"?

Coach Schmid will have to replace his son Eric Schmid, who knows his system better than anybody. Schmid was also an excellent dual-threat quarterback and it will be hard to find someone to take his spot. Schmid will be playing for Sam Houston this fall.

There are also some key games to look at for the Highlanders this season

9/16 vs Katy

Katy is a huge game for The Woodlands and it will be a challenge to see how good the team really is this year. Last season, The Woodlands took the battle of the two teams in a highly anticipated game. The Highlander defense will have to deal with Katy Running Back Deondrick Glass who is a four star recruit and is very highly recruited by teams like LSU, Alabama, and Michigan. On a total of 232 carries in his career, Glass has more than 2500 yards rushing and 44 touchdowns to his name.

9/22 vs George Ranch

The very next week The Woodlands faces off against George Ranch who is another respected team going into this year. George Ranch has some big weapons on offense including Running Back Jay'Ren Miller who will now be the full time back for George Ranch after splitting time last season. Tight End Ryan Moore is another big weapon to look out for.

11/10 vs College Park

I have said it before and I will say it again, this game will be closer than people think. By November, College Park will be ready for The Highlanders in their new system under Lonnie Madison. The Highlanders will walk away with the win in this one but College Park will come ready to play and this will be a great rivalry game to end the season.

My prediction is that The Woodlands will end the season with a 9-1 record and they will be State Semi-Finalists at the end of the year.

Coach Schmid has a lot of tools to work with and it will be a great season to watch unfold.
