The Woodlands, Tx---August 16th 2017 brought in more than just the new school year for the College Park. 2017-2018 ushers in a new era in the high school’s not so good past. In the school’s first 11 seasons, the football team holds a record of 46-66 while only getting past the 1st round of the playoffs just one time.

In steps new head coach Lonnie Madison. A former defensive coordinator and a former Texas A&M football players, College Park and their fans hope that the era of “Veer and Read Option” are over.

Madison brings in an all new staff with him as Offensive Coordinator Steven Bruce and Defensive Coordinator Eric Parsley will look to assist Madison in helping turn this team around. Madison has a great history of winning defenses as Klein Collins allowed just 14.1 points per contest and held its opponents to single digits in nine games.

Madison enters the 2017-18 season with a few unanswered questions: Who will be the starting Quarterback when the Cavaliers offense takes the field on September 2nd? Outside of Austin Fox, who is Madison expecting to step up and make the big plays on an offense that has been lethargic for the past decade?

As the days of fall approach questions will be answered and expectations will either be exceeded, met, or underwhelmed. Madison and his staff will have to teach more of a hybrid defense. Madison will also have to teach their offense to a brand new group of players that have been operating under Coach Carson’s read option offense for the best 11 seasons. This could be an awakening for a program that has been in need of a savior.
