THE WOODLANDS, Texas-- The community was introduced to junior quarterback Jake Hunnicutt on Saturday's Meet the Cavs open practice. Soon, Hunnicutt should put himself, and the Cavaliers in the spotlight and headlines.

Saturday was a showcase of Hunnicutt's ability on the field. With three passing touchdowns against College Parks first team defense, and a plethora of accurate passes and smart reads, Hunnicutt looked like Coach Madison's perfect guy for his shotgun spread offense. The junior saved the best for last, scrambling out of the pocket, and avoiding multiple defenders to find Wide Receiver Roger Younger on the last play of the day. Hunnicutt’s ability to not only create the highlight play, but to make the intelligent reads, gives their offense a scary new makeover for opposing defenses.

It’s hard to not mention College Park’s key loss at wide receiver with the transfer of Texas A&M commit Chase Lane to St. Pius X. But at 6'1 200 pounds, Hunnicutt has the size and the arm to lead College Park back to the playoffs this year. Accompanied with College Park’s multiple redzone targets on the outside such as Roger Younger, Sebastian Cos, and Peyton Sobosle, Hunnicutt shouldn’t have any shortage of firepower on offense. Saturday was also a chance to see running back Travis Washburn, who had previously left the football team to focus on baseball. Washburn didn’t miss a beat, quickly making his presence known with a touchdown grab from the junior quarterback.

As Hunnicutt continues to excel on the field, his greatest ability might be in the classroom, where the junior is ranked within the top 15% in his class. Giving Madison his leader on and off the field.

Hunnicutt will have another chance to solidify his spot as first team quarterback during Friday night’s scrimmage against Coach Madison’s former team the Klein Collins Tigers.
