THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Township Board of Directors met Sept. 5 regarding matters in hurricane recovery.

The Board of Directors authorized up to $500,000 from The Woodlands Township to supplement services that are provided through the Counties/FEMA to assist in the cleanup. Specifically, the Board authorized the President/General Manager to take any and all necessary actions to procure debris removal services with the Township’s existing contractors in an amount not to exceed $500,000, to be funded $250,000 from the operating contingency account and $250,000 from the capital contingency reserve, to include the following items:

  • Authorize funding for the placement of dumpsters close to the Timarron Lakes area of Creekside Park. This will provide residents with a close drop off site like the Montgomery County Public Drop Off location at the recycling center on Pruett Road.
  • Encourage volunteers with trailers or pickups who want to assist storm victims in moving debris to a county designated site or one of the Township provided dumpsters in Creekside Park.
  • Work with the Commissioners in both Montgomery and Harris Counties to encourage the removal of debris in a timely manner.
  • Provide contingency funding for the removal of debris from gated communities if not authorized by FEMA in a timely manner. The Township was built around an equal service model and services necessary for a clean up after a natural disaster should be provided equally to all.
  • Authorize staff to execute a contract amendment with Waste Management based on existing contract pricing and state approved pricing, if needed, to assure that all residents are provided debris removal services as the first round of debris removal operations is completed by both Montgomery and Harris Counties.

Also at the meeting The Woodlands Fire Department Chief Alan Benson gave an update from the storm. The Woodlands Fire Department evacuated 844 people and had six major rescues.
