THE WOODLANDS, Texas---The Woodlands Highlanders face off against the Spring Lions in a scrimmage Friday night at Spring High School. This was originally scheduled as a regular season game, but due to Hurricane Harvey, this has become a scrimmage to get the two teams ready for the long season ahead.

Both of these teams are coming off of amazing seasons as both made the playoffs and had winning season. The Woodlands made it to the 6A championship game against Lake Travis. Unfortunately for Spring, they lost against a tough Austin Bowie team.

The Woodlands lost a lot of talent this past summer as a lot of their key offensive players. Quarterback Eric Schmid, Running Back Carlos Ramos, and Wide Receivers Chris Stewart & Dylan Casey. On defense the Highlanders lost 2 key cogs to their defense in Defensive Ends Michael Purcell and Zachary Leone. Another key loss The Highlanders suffered was to Cornerback Ethan Bonner. Bonner tore his ACL in 7on7 drills this past offseason and will unfortunately be out the whole season.

The highlanders did retain defensive anchor Jackson Shearer. Regardless of these losses and additions, The Woodlands Highlanders have high expectations this year. A couple key pieces were retained for The Woodlands (along with Shearer). Wide Receiver KeSean Carter, and Offensive Tackle Jake Symptak,

Spring offense will have a new leader this season as Dual Threat Quarterback Eric Spencer graduated this summer. More notable losses for the Lions Are Running Backs Jacoby Glenn, JaCobe Finley, and Wide Receivers Deonta Adams and Arnezz Archie who also graduated. The Lions offense will be looking for a lot of skill positions to be hopefully filled by the end of this scrimmage.

This should be an exciting scrimmage to watch. It features two teams that have a winning tradition at their respective schools. There are a few unknowns for both teams, and each plan to have them answered after this scrimmage. My prediction is 45-21 Highlanders take this one. I think KeSean Carter will dominate this game for the Highlanders and show the district what could be a standout season for the Highlanders Wide Receiver.
