THE WOODLANDS, Texas—It’s homecoming night for the College Park Cavaliers at Woodforest Bank Stadium and the Deer Park Deers are in town to attempt to disrupt the celebration.

After a rough outing last week against the Tomball Cougars, the Cavaliers hoped to reel in their first win of the season. The Deers also look to bounce back after a close loss to Pearland Dawson in their first game.

College Park received the first half kickoff and proceeded to go three and out on their first drive. With the Deers stopping the Cavaliers in their own territory, they were set up with good field position throughout the first half. Deer Park running back Traion Diggles opens up the scoring with a 1 yard touchdown run on their first possession of the game. Bringing the score to 6-0 after the Deers failed a two-point conversion.

The Cavaliers did not sulk. On the following drive Travis Washburn takes a pitch from quarterback Jake Hunnicutt 56 yards to the house. Giving College Park their only lead of the half. Diggles was a man on a mission in the first half. On the last play of the first quarter the senior ran for a 35-yard gain to set the Deers up for 1st and goal. On 1st down Deers quarterback Broc Weidner found tight end Blake Greene for a 7-yard touchdown. A 25-yard field goal by College Park’s Carson Mohr brought the score to 13-10 to end the first half.

The second half started with back to back three and outs by both teams. College Park’s defense was able to hold Deer Park’s offense on multiple occasions with heavy pressure on Broc Weidner by the defensive line and linebackers. The Cavaliers gave senior wide receiver Sebastian Cos the start at corner to replace Hunter Whaley who was out for tonight’s game. With a little over five minutes remaining in the third quarter, Weidner threw to tight end Dylan Heim for a 23-yard touchdown. Another failed two-point conversion brought the Deers lead to 19-10.

Early in the 4th quarter the Cavaliers were able to convert a big 3rd and 28 when Roger Younger took a reverse exactly 28 yards for the first down. A couple plays later, Travis Washburn took another pitch 11 yards for a touchdown to bring the Cavaliers within two points.

The rotation of running backs between Dane Vann and Travis Washburn has been the spark for the College Park offense in their first two games. With Vann getting the majority of the carries the first game, Washburn was given the go-ahead in this one rushing for two Cavalier scores.

Facing a 4th and 10 late in the fourth quarter, Hunnicutt found Travis Washburn for a toe tapping sideline catch to the 20-yard line. Kicker Carson Mohr drilled the game winning field goal to give College Park the victory 20-19.

The Cavaliers move to 1-1 on the season and their next game will be in College Station against A&M Consolidated at 7:30 p.m.
