THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Children can tap into their creative sides, delve into scientific experimentation and much more during The Woodlands Children’s Museum’s fall and winter workshops.

“We strongly believe that for young children, fun and learning should go hand in hand,” said Angela Colton, executive director of the museum. “Our upcoming workshops incorporate that philosophy into a wide variety of topics, from dance to robotics.”

This year, the museum has brought back its popular Drop and Shop Workshop for children ages 4-8. This program gives parents a chance to get some holiday shopping in while their children create art projects. Parents are asked to send a packed lunch with their child; the museum will provide cookies and milk.

The Drop and Shop Workshop costs $44 per session for museum members and $64 for nonmembers. Sessions are available 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 and Friday, Dec. 22.

Also planned are Second Saturday Workshops for children ages 5-8. These workshops cost $12 for each two-hour session. “All Hallow’s Eve,” set for 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 14, will explore Celtic influence on Halloween activities through art projects.

During “FallTivities,” from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Nov. 11, participants will focus on tactile activities, including printmaking with corn husks and pumpkin printing.

On Jan. 3 and 4, the museum will present Winter FUNcaTion with age-appropriate activities for children ages 4-8.

The workshops for 4-year-olds, “Winter Trees” and “Animals in Winter” use children’s books as foundations. Children will hear stories, make winter snacks, sing and create artwork that tie in with the books.

The workshop for children ages 5 and 6, “Snowed In Science,” will include lessons about winter folklore, snowmen, the winter solstice and more.

“Scientifically ARTrageous,” for children ages 7 and 8, will tie in with children’s love for exploration and discovery. Activities are designed to help children discover basic science concepts through art experiences.

Winter FUNcaTion sessions will take place from 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 3-4. These workshops cost $39 per day for museum members and $59 per day for nonmembers.
