Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital educates women about breast health

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- On Thursday, October 26, Montgomery County ladies filled Big Sky Barn, located near Bentwater, to learn about the comprehensive care approach to breast health at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.

The breast care team comprises board-certified specialists who are experts in the fields of breast radiology, breast surgical oncology, reconstructive surgery, radiation oncology and hematology.

A physician panel discussion focused on cutting edge technology available in The Woodlands, including SAVI SCOUT, a radar localization system used to remove tumors in the breast. Houston Methodist The Woodlands was the first hospital in Montgomery County and northern Houston region to offer the wire-free, state-of-the-art capability.

The doctors also emphasized that their team approach is what truly sets Houston Methodist apart. Each physician conveniently sees patients in the same building - Medical Office Building 1 on the hospital campus. The team meets weekly to share information on each and every breast cancer patient to determine the best way to treat their individual case.

The event included a video presentation highlighting the journey of breast cancer survivor Donna McDermott of The Woodlands, who learned she had cancer after having a 3D mammogram at Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands.

Following her diagnosis, McDermott had a lumpectomy, breast reduction and 20 sessions of radiation. She is now cancer free.

“I don’t know what it would be like to go through cancer any other way,” said McDermott. “I know the journey I went on and I felt like my hand was held, I was carried and I had the best doctors.”

Following the presentation, guests enjoyed a fashion show by The Rancher’s Daughter, a boutique located in historic downtown Montgomery, and JuJu Blue Boutique, located on FM 1097 in Willis.

The night concluded with food, shopping and an opportunity to make Positively Pink memories at a green-screen photo booth.
