THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- A beautiful, crisp, sunny morning welcomed over 5,000 walkers to the campus of Alight Solutions – The Woodlands for the American Heart Association’s Montgomery County Healthy for Good Heart Walk this year.

Diane Freeman, spokesperson for Event Chair, CHI St. Luke’s Health shared, “What a fantastic event. Montgomery County needed this… people of all ages were out having fun, celebrating each other, and learning about living healthier lives. The whole morning was filled with positive energy and people living out the American Heart Association slogan, ‘Life is Why.’”

The annual, family-friendly 5K, which was held on Saturday, October 28, focused on its mission to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, with a prominent focus on the organizations Healthy for Good movement.

“Our sponsors offered fun and engaging booths this year including a farmer’s market, stroke simulation activities, fitness class demonstrations, a kid’s Heart Warrior dash and a fun selfie photo zone,” shared Thomas Smouse, Event Co-Chair and AHA Board Member. He was on hand to present the Pet Costume Contest winners and share American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good message. “We focused this year’s walk on the simple approach of making an effort to eat smart, add color, move more, and be well; and we hope people will carry over that effort into November which is Eat Smart month.”

Area resident, Steve Furber, shared his story with the crowd as a heart disease survivor. Creekside Park Junior High LOTC Color Guard accompanied Mady Tozier from The John Cooper School in presenting the National Anthem. The event emcee was Michael Graham from Signature Eventx.

“We are overwhelmed by the community’s support of our Montgomery County Heart Walk this year,” said Carolyn Donovan, Corporate Market Director for the Montgomery County Heart Walk. “The Walk’s success is a direct result of the enthusiasm and commitment from our sponsors, Executive Leadership Team, and our dedicated Chairs – CHI St. Luke’s Health and Thomas Smouse.”

The event was sponsored by Healthy for Good Local Sponsors: Alight Solutions, Kiewit, Strike USA; and by Local Sponsors: CHI St. Luke’s Health, TETRA Technologies, LGI Homes, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, Houston Northwest Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, Northside Imports, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Global Shop Solutions, 5Point Credit Union, CORE Lending – a division of Goldwater Bank, First American Title Company, Houston Methodist – The Woodlands Hospital, Conroe Regional Medical Center, Repsol, The Woodlands Development Company, and Villa Sport.
