THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Entrepreneurs, home-based businesses, startups, and small to medium business owners are looking for a new, efficient way to get the job done – and The Work Lodge just may be the answer.

The Work Lodge, 25700 I-45 at Havenwood Office Park in The Woodlands, provides co-working office space with private suites and meeting rooms at a fraction of the cost of monthly office leases.

"On the face of it, it looks like we provide office and workspace, and we do -- but that's just one piece of what we provide," said Mike Thakur, founder and 'chief cheerleader.' "We’re more like a boutique hotel. There's nothing quite like us in the area."

Indeed, it's more of an atmosphere, with great views, high-end furniture and pleasing décor – designed to impress not only business folks, but also their visiting clients. The Work Lodge also provides 24-hour security, and backup connections in the event of a power outage.

"We're all about removing friction, making business lives as easy as possible," Thakur said. "Let us focus on what we’re good at, so you can focus on what you're good at."

Thakur said The Work Lodge attracts a wide range of business-savvy folks from a wide variety of industries, including insurance, finance, software and medical billing.

"It's quite diverse," Thakur said. "We want The Work Lodge community to be a mix. It's great because you meet folks you might not otherwise meet."

While The Work Lodge is all about business, there's room for a little fun. The Vintage Park location in north Houston has a full slide, and The Woodlands location has a swing. "It gives people a chance for a 5-minute mental break," Thakur said. "Creating this type of environment is proven to be effective in the business world. I believe this is the future of work."

Originally from Manchester in the U.K., Thakur moved to The Woodlands and worked as COO for a security company. His job allowed him to work from home, which is sometimes too much of a distraction. Yet working in a coffee shop didn't work either due to the need for privacy in his line of work.

"I went to an executive suite in an interior office, with four walls of drywall and a solid door," Thakur said. "I felt like I was in prison. And they wanted $800 a month. I couldn't sign a long lease. I figured I wasn't the only one, so we started thinking about what we would like – and then we set out to make it."
