2017-2018 Cooper soccer preview

“The biggest challenge will be building our team chemistry this season. We will have a lot of young players new to the varsity team playing in key positions that will need to develop very quickly once SPC district play starts. We also lost a lot of strong defenders from last year’s team and we will need to find out who can replace those guys very quickly.” –Coach Bryan Sherman

Athletes To Watch
Evan Burchfiel (junior) Evan will be playing his third year of varsity soccer with Cooper. As central defender, Evan does an outstanding job of organizing the team and leading by example. He has played virtually every minute of every game since joining the varsity team freshman year, and this will be his first year as team captain.
Tega Ewherido (junior) is in his second year on the varsity team at Cooper. Last season, Tega came off the bench and scored some very important goals throughout the season, so we are anticipating a big step up in his play now that he will be a starter. Fast, tall, and good with the ball, Tega has a great deal of potential and if he has a good season, the team will as well.

Key matchups
All games are going to be very competitive, and SPC district play is the most important part of our season. Past tradition shows that those games will to be key to our season:
• Cooper at Episcopal HS 1/12/2018
• Cooper at St John HS 1/19/2018
• Cooper vs. Kinkaid HS 2/6/2018

Season Goals
• To honorably represent Cooper and continue the winning tradition
• Qualify for end of season SPC tournament and outperform last season’s results
• Increase our goal differential from last season (goals scored vs. goals conceded)
