MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Topics such as “advancements in cancer treatment,” “joint replacement surgery” and “Headache 101” are all part of a new, monthly lecture series hosted by Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital at C.K. Ray Recreation Center in Conroe.

The hospital teamed up with the City of Conroe’s fitness and activity center in 2017, shortly after the hospital opened, to bring educational programs about health and wellness to members and city employees. Both organizations are proud to announce in 2018, these free, lunchtime events are open to the public.

“We wanted to give the community the opportunity to attend these great educational lectures and also expose them to the many offerings the recreation center has for all ages,” said Mike Cantu, C.K. Ray Recreation Center supervisor. “It is a great opportunity to work with Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. The Houston Methodist name is well known in the community and partnering with the hospital gives the lecture series great creditability.”

The lecture series will feature presentations by board-certified physicians who practice at the hospital as well as at Houston Methodist Comprehensive Care Center in Conroe and at various Houston Methodist primary care offices located throughout Montgomery County.

“This partnership allows our highly trained specialists to share valuable information about medical topics with residents of Montgomery County and it allows us to showcase the services and cutting-edge procedures we offer at the hospital. Part of our commitment to leading medicine is educating the community,” said Pablo Vasquez, associate chief nursing officer, Houston Methodist The Woodlands. “We encourage members of the community to come to these lectures, meet our physicians and ask questions.”

The first lecture in the 2018 series, “Stroke Education,” presented by Dr. Darryl Camp, stroke neurologist, will take place on Tuesday, January 30, from 12 – 1 P.M. in the C.K. Ray Activity Building. Lunch will be provided.

C.K. Ray Recreation Center is located at 1203 Candy Cane Lane, Conroe, Texas 77301.

The event is free but registration is required. Register at houstonmethodist.org/events.
