The north Houston communities of Johnson Development Corp. — Grand Central Park in Conroe, Harmony in Spring and Woodforest in Montgomery — recently served up a $750 donation to Meals on Wheels.

The organization received the donation through The Grant program, an ongoing charitable campaign the three communities started in 2017. Realtors nominate charities to receive monetary grants of up to $750 or donations of volunteer time of up to six hours. The award is given quarterly.

Through the most recent donation, The Grant will help Meals on Wheels provide home-delivered meals and transportation services to local seniors.

“We are so grateful,” said Bonnie Pfrenger, Director of Development for the organization. “We just learned that many more seniors have relocated to Montgomery County from Harris County due to the flooding, so the need is even greater than we anticipated.”

Currently, the organization cooks and delivers more than 550 hot meals per weekday. There is a waiting list with more than 350 seniors hoping to begin service. Meals on Wheels also operates a breakfast bag program, transportation services and caters hot meals in three senior centers. The Grant donation will feed one senior for an entire year.

Bethany Laub with Heritage Texas Properties nominated Meals on Wheels, an organization she regularly hosts fundraisers for.

“I first learned about Meals on Wheels while taking my 90-year-old mother to an art class,” Laub said. “I started asking the Meals on Wheels folks questions about the amazing work they do and wanted to help them.”

She began hosting Kendra Scott and Brighton Trunk Shows at model homes in Montgomery County communities, including Grand Central Park. The money raised goes to Meal on Wheels. When she heard about The Grant, Laub said she immediately thought of the charity.

“I am thrilled that Meals on Wheels was selected,” Laub said. “Our older generation is often neglected. Sometimes, the only visitor a senior will get is a Meals on Wheels volunteer. The food is awesome, and the volunteers give so much of their own time.”

Faith Pitman, Realtor Relations Director and Marketing Manager for Johnson Development, encourages Realtors to nominate their charities.

“Realtors give so much of their own time and energy to worthy causes,” Pitman said. “We share that desire and believe that The Grant program is an excellent way to partner with them and help the greater community.”

Applications are being taken now for the next grant, which will be awarded in April. For more information, visit https://www.johnsondevelopment.com/thegrant.
