Joyride Center at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 'Top Hands' Horse Show

MAGNOLIA, Texas -- JoyRide Center is happy to report participating in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo “Top Hands” event, which kicks off Houston’s rodeo season.

The Top Hands Horse show offers a variety of physically or mentally challenged riders of all ages the opportunity to compete in six events, including showmanship at halter, English equitation, Western equitation, trail, pole bending and barrel racing. The show is divided into divisions based on participant age and assistance needed. Riding centers from across Texas participated, representing 21 facilities with over 245 riders competing. Riders are awarded belt buckles, trophies and ribbons.

JoyRide had 14 athletes compete, who successfully accomplished many personal and team goals – correct seat and body position, showing at the trot for the first time, holding the reins correctly, and good sportsmanship. Our riders competed in 42 events, and brought home many awards, including 7 first place belt buckles.

JoyRide Center is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit therapeutic riding facility located in Magnolia, Texas. The JoyRide Center offers three programs including hippotherapy, therapeutic horsemanship, and a Day Habilitation program (JRC Prep). JoyRide’s mission is to help people with different abilities find more joy in life through equine assisted activities and therapies.

The goal of our organization is to make the impossible into I'M POSSIBLE for our clients! We are a program that believes horses and the chance to be a productive member of a community help us to learn, grow, and reach our full potential.

JoyRide Center clients are people with a wide range of (dis)ABILITIES, and pairing them with horses is a wonderful and natural thing. Not only is it an opportunity for fun, but horses walk almost exactly like people with the same rhythm and stride length, so it is also physically therapeutic. Horses are the perfect companions to help people focus on their specific goals; whether that is to gain strength for walking, to improve their minds with problem solving or to learn how to make friends, all while expanding their spirits by sharing the love of a wonderful animal with a group of dedicated volunteers and staff.
