Montgomery County cops bust Cleveland cockfighting ring

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- On March 31, 2018, at 3:05 pm, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 132 Gill Road, Cleveland, Texas in reference to an animal cruelty call. When Deputies arrived on scene, they observed numerous male suspects on location around a metal arena next to the residence.

Once the males observed Deputies, one of the male suspects fled into the woods. The remaining male suspects were detained.

During the investigation, 12 live roosters and 18 dead roosters were found on location. Deputies also discovered numerous pieces of cockfighting paraphernalia and evidence that showed the males were involved in a cockfighting operation.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Livestock Unit completed a seizure affidavit and took custody of the evidence and the remaining roosters. Montgomery County Animal Control arrived on location and took custody of the dead roosters so a necropsy could be completed. Deputies arrested two suspects for felony cockfighting and one male for Evading. Three suspects received citations for attending the cockfighting event.

  • Jose Adrian Lopez-DOB 4-16- 74-Arrested for Evading and issued a citation
  • Jose Luis Lopez-DOB 6-19- 78-Arrested for felony cockfighting
  • Francisco Olivo-DOB 04-29- 60-Arrested for felony cockfighting
