Despite snow flurries and biting winds at the start of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Hunt Seat National Finals in Syracuse, NY, the level of competition was heated as nearly 400 riders vied for national titles in the Toyota Coliseum on the New York State Fairgrounds on April 20 and 22, 2018.

Montgomery was represented well by local rider, Grace Tilley. Grace rides for Edgebrook Equestrian Center and this is her second year competing in IEA. Grace was one of 11,000 IEA riders in grades 6 – 12 that competed in multiple competitions throughout the regular show season, regional finals and zone finals. Grace exhibited poise, sportsmanship and superb equestrian ability as she competed. Of the 400 riders that advanced to National Finals, Grace finished the year long competition 7th place in her division. The show was available for viewing live on IEA’s website and Grace’s team supported her well by cheering her on as she competed. “Grace is a fabulous rider and I’m so proud of how she did this weekend and so excited to see what her future holds. Although she was the only rider on our team to advance to National Finals, our entire team had an excellent season and I’m looking forward to 2018/2019!”, said Sayer Townsend, Owner and Head Trainer at Edgebrook.

About IEA: The Interscholastic Equestrian Association is one of the fastest growing youth equestrian organizations in the United States with over 12,500 members in 42 states. IEA offers middle and high school aged students a unique competition format similar to the format utilized by college equestrians around the United States. Students are not required to own their own horses or tack; instead, the host team arranges for the horses and equipment. Riders do not know their mounts until shortly before their classes, allowing their scores to be based upon horsemanship and equitation. More information can be found at www.RideIEA.org.
