MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Montgomery County Hospital District was dispatched to a call on Monday night, and proceeded to transport a male in his 20s to a local hospital. During the transport the male became combative with MCHD paramedics, forcing the crew to pull over while going southbound on Interstate 45 and radio for police assistance. Once the ambulance stopped, the patient fled and ran into traffic, where he was struck by two vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.

The crew was sent home after debriefing, and was made aware of all resources available to them if they need help coping with the incident. MCHD will also follow up with each of the employees to check on their mental well-being. MCHD expresses condolences to the family members of the patient. MCHD is also committed to fully cooperating with law enforcement on the investigation, and will release more information as it becomes available.
