MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- On 7/10/2018 at 11:38 PM the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Bomb Squad responded to an active scene in the Magnolia area.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies had responded to a home in the 10100 block of Caddo Trail for a welfare check and once they arrived on location Deputies found Steven Gibson inside his garage near a work bench. Deputies spoke with witnesses and learned that Gibson had earlier made threats to burn down the residence and had made statements that he was going to build a bomb.

MCFMO Investigators arrived on scene and along with MCSO Deputies conducted an investigation, learning that Gibson had been observed taking items into the garage and Gibson had begun constructing an improvised explosive device or IED. The device was not complete at the time of the arrival of Law Enforcement and the explosive material was secured by MCFMO EOD personnel.

Investigators determined that Steven Gibson knowingly possessed components of an explosive weapon with the intent to combine the components into an explosive weapon. He was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County jail without incident.
