THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The College Park High School Cavalier varsity football team is led by Head Coach Lonnie Madison.

Madison comes to College Park with a proven track record as a defensive coordinator for a number of winning programs throughout his career. However, perhaps the most important thing he brings with him is his ties to The Woodlands community.

Madison has been coaching for 11 years with stops at Brazoswood, Oak Ridge, Clear Brook, Magnolia and two stints at Klein Collins.

When he arrived at Klein Collins the first time in 2008, the Tigers had put up back-to-back 1-9 seasons. In Madison's first year calling the defense, they went 6-3. The next year, they went 12-1.

When Madison made his return to Klein Collins in 2014, the Tigers were coming off a 4-6 season. He helped lead the team to an 11-2 finish in his first season back as defensive coordinator. The following year, Klein Collins went 9-2.

Last season, the Tigers finished 13-2, losing to eventual state champion DeSoto in the state semifinals at NRG Stadium after winning the first regional title in school history.

At just about every stop along his coaching career, Madison has helped jumpstart programs. College Park is hoping he can do the same for a team that went 1-9, 2-8, and 1-8 the past three seasons.

The CPHS Cavaliers have been playing varsity football since the team's inception in 2006. The team reached the playoffs in its first two seasons but has yet to reach them since 2015.

On the offensive side of the ball, Camden Farmer and Jake Hunnicutt could be in a quarterback battle this season.

Jake Hunnicutt is the clear day-one starter. He has all the tools to show the world it’s his time, but as a team they both will be looking to make a splash for the Cavs, and improve their resumes by airing the ball out more, like the 19-20 comeback win against Deer Park.

Physically, Farmer has the better size and ball placement, but only time will tell who is more ready. Aaron Randle, Alexander Leal, and Charles Quajon will be the lone men in the back. They will have a lot to pick up on in this running-back race as it isn’t clear cut who will be the star.

Peyton Sobosle is my favorite CISD sleeper pick of the year, a 6’4" Tight End who is athletically gifted with catching the ball and has very good blocking skills to seal a defensive end.

Honorable mention is number 38 Carson Mohr. Usually kickers aren’t highlighted, or ranted about to much unless its a game winner or a 50 yard field goal.

That's exactly what Carson Mohr did last season. With the game on the line and seconds ticking against Deer Park, Mohr kicked the game-winning 3 points last year, sending the crowd into a rampage. Look for him to improve and close out more games for the Cavaliers this season, as he is one of the few kickers in CISD that can change the outcome.
