Top 5 Things to Do This Week in The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Township is hosting two events for Patriot Day, Tuesday Sept. 11. From The Woodlands Township: The Patriot Day of Remembrance will be from 7:30 to 8 a.m. at Central Fire Station, 9951 Grogan’s Mill Road, The Woodlands, TX 77380. The ceremony will include a Presentation of Colors by The Woodlands Fire Department Honor Guard along with a reading of The Fireman’s Prayer and The Ringing of the Bell in honor of fallen firefighters. The event will also pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

First Responders Day in The Woodlands will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Town Green Park, 2099 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380. The Woodlands Township will honor and thank first responders with a community gathering featuring a Presentation of Colors by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard, speakers and more. “The Board of Directors considers it a privilege to honor and remember the 3,000 lives lost during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, including the 400 first responders who gave their lives to help others,” said Chairman Bunch. “We encourage the community to join us in honoring their memory and their legacy of service to our country. We also look forward to thanking our first responders, who work so hard to keep The Woodlands safe.”

The Woodlands YMCA at Shadowbend is hosting a Senior Open House and Activity Fair Wednesday Sept. 12. The free event, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., includes demos, games, lunch and health screenings.

Check out some good old fashioned, downhome country music from Gary Nunn at Dosey Doe – The Big Barn Friday Sept. 14. One of Nunn's most famous tunes has been used as the "Austin City Limits" show theme song for several years. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for dinner. Tickets available here.

Cassidy Joined for Hope raises awareness about teen suicide prevention. The nonprofit organization is holding a Kick-Fest kickball tournament Saturday Sept. 15 at Alden Bridge Sports Park. The event will help fund a suicide prevention training certification course, and the development of a suicide-safe app.

The Concert in the Park series presents Treyn Wreck 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Sunday Sept. 16 at Northshore Park. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, coolers and even your pets for this free show.
