THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Teamwork is what you expect from the Houston Dynamo/Dash Youth Soccer Club; but, working together to battle breast cancer sets these kids apart. The soccer club’s Girls Development Academy led the initiative to support breast cancer awareness and encouraged all other club members to participate.

In a partnership with sponsor Hunter Family Orthodontics, players sold 2,000 pink shirts to fans across the greater Houston area. Dynamo/Dash supporters from soccer communities spanning from Katy to Beaumont and from The Woodlands to Lake Jackson helped raise awareness and funds.

“The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is now an integral part of the club. Through our Service core value, we were able to sell close to 2,000 pink shirts to raise money and awareness for an issue that affects so many lives. I would like to thank all of the players, parents and staff who participated,” said Simon Boddison, director of Soccer Operations, Houston Dynamo/Dash Youth Soccer Club.

Ultimately the efforts raised $8,500, which the Houston Dynamo/Dash Soccer Club donated to Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands. The breast care center, located on the campus of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, houses state of the art technology dedicated to preventive and diagnostic breast cancer screening and providing wellness and care to women fighting breast cancer.

“We are very proud of our ongoing partnership with Houston Dynamo/Dash Youth Soccer Club. With the support of Hunter Family Orthodontics, the organization's young athletes have demonstrated great leadership in the community. Their dedication to educating women about early breast cancer detection is truly saving lives, and the money raised will support services and technology at our breast care center. On behalf of Houston Methodist The Woodlands, I am grateful that we have these young role models in our community,” said Debra F. Sukin, regional senior vice president, Houston Methodist, and chief executive officer, Houston Methodist The Woodlands.

During the check presentation at Gosling Sports Fields on Tuesday, November 6, Sukin addressed the young soccer players and commended them for the values and leadership skills they displayed on and off the field.
