CONROE, Texas - Houston Area Oil Painters of America, part of the Conroe Art League (CAL), is a group of representational painters who have a passion for realism. This newly formed group consists of five accomplished artists who have demonstrated a high degree of excellence in their work. All are members of CAL and of the national organization Oil Painters of America.

The five founding members plan an opening show February 8-10, 2019, at the CAL Gallery at the Madeley Building in Conroe, to showcase their work. Member Debra Riley, well known for her close attention to fine detail, will exhibit some of her work in landscapes, still life, and portraits. She has traveled the world taking photographs for inspiration to use once back in her Montgomery Texas studio. Artist Lois Blackburne finds her inspiration in nature and will bring natural scenes and portraits to show. She strives, through the pursuit of knowledge and teaching, to perfect her craft and inspire others. As a self taught artist, Juan Cantavella believes his work is a never ending learning process. He is inspired by the great classic and living masters, loves the drama of contrast and will showcase the play between light and shadow. Tom LaRock, a professional fine artist in The Woodlands, specializes in realistic oil paintings that tell a story in a timeless manner. Each of his represented painting will compel the viewer to consider the beauty, truth and goodness in people and the world in which we live. Member Beau Crump has found oil painting to be his passion for 43 years. As a self taught artist, he has worked with painters who have helped him climb over barriers that have lead him to the perfection of his craft. His work will round out the three day event.
“This is a “first of its kind” art show at the CAL Gallery. Opening night will be February 8th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., and will include hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to meet the artists. Everyone is invited to attend,” states Beau Crump, member of the group. “The evening promises to be just the beginning of the Houston Area Oil Painters of America events and shows,” Crump adds.

Conroe Art League is a nonprofit organization of vibrant artists and art lovers. Just seven local artists started the Art League in 1963. Today membership has reached over 300. Art education is a top priority for CAL and on-going classes are held in the gallery in many mediums. The mission of the League is to encourage artistic development and cultivate an appreciation for the visual arts through education, exhibitions, and community outreach.
