THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- VARSITY SWIMMING & DIVING

1/4-5 at Coastal Bend TISCA Meet, Tuloso-Midway Aquatics Center, Corpus Christi • Third Place

Coach Sara Bany: Members of the Cooper Swim Team travelled to Corpus Christi over the weekend to compete in the 5A and Private School TISCA (Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) meet. The boys and girls finished third overall and put up some record-setting swims! Every Cooper swimmer qualified for finals in each of their events during the preliminary races on Friday evening, even after travelling all morning.

Representing the Dragons for the boys’ team were seniors Vidyal Pradeepkumar, William Staebel and Campbell Wolford, junior Chris Seymour and freshmen Henry Shea and Drew Wilkerson. Both the 200 Medley relay of Pradeepkumar, Staebel, Shea and Wilkerson and the 200 Free Relay of Pradeepkumar, Staebel, Seymour and Wolford came in 2nd place overall and the 400 Free Relay of Shea, Wilkerson, Seymour and Wolford finished 3rd. Individually, the swims were fast and encouraging at this point in the season!

Highlights for this meet included Staebel swimming his way to a new school record in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.08. Seymour won the 100 Fly with a time of 52.87, which set a new meet record, Wolford and Pradeepkumar got 1st and 2nd in the 100 Freestyle and Pradeepkumar won the 100 Backstroke. Other notable swims were Seymour and Staebel in the 200 Freestyle finishing 2nd and 4th respectively, Shea finishing 2nd in the 200 IM right at his season best of 2:02.90, Wolford also finished 2ndin the 50 Freestyle with a time of 22.49 and Wilkerson swam a new personal best time in both the 50 Free and the 100 Backstroke.

The girls’ team of juniors Lauren Cordes and Jane Ritch, sophomore Katia Guerrero and freshman Tillie Claggett won every race that they swam in. In the individual races, they started off Saturday’s finals with Guerrero winning the 200 Freestyle with a personal best time of 2:12.90. She was followed by Claggett winning the 200 IM with a personal best time and setting a new meet record of 2:18.41. Cordes then swam the 50 Free, winning that race with a time of 26.01. Ritch then swam back-to-back races of the 100 Fly and 100 Free, winning both of those races with times of 1:01.40 and 56.47 respectively. The final individual win for the girls’ team was Claggett in the 100 Breaststroke, setting a new meet record time of 1:06.85. The four girls also competed in and won the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Free Relay by a commanding six seconds and 10 seconds respectively.

I could not be prouder of how fast all of these guys swam and how well they represented Cooper on the entire trip!

VARSITY GIRLS’ SOCCER

1/5 vs. Dragon Alumni • 4-1 LOSS

Coach Amber Clevenger: The Alumni game was an excellent start to 2019 and it’s something I look forward to each season. I feel it’s so powerful for the current players to see and meet the former players that shaped and molded the girls’ soccer program from previous years. The energy that the alumni brought was an inspiration to my current players and it was fun to watch everyone play and have fun.
