HOUSTON, Texas -- On Tuesday, February 12 at 11 a.m., executives from Kroger and the Montgomery County Food Bank, along with local officials, will unveil a brand new state-of-the-art Produce Pod at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event will take place at the Montgomery County Food Bank located at 1 Food for Life Way, Conroe, TX 77385.

Kroger Houston sponsors new “Produce Pod,” allowing Montgomery County Food Bank to distribute an additional 700,000+ pounds of fresh produce each year

The Produce Pod is an innovative mobile unit that will be used to store and transport fresh produce from the Montgomery County Food Bank to local partner agencies for distribution to individuals and families in need. The Produce Pod is both an eco-friendly and cost-effective way for partner agencies to access the greatest variety of nutritional foods in volume.

Kroger, who funded the project almost entirely, says they are thrilled about the new Produce Pod and the impact it will have on the Montgomery County community.

“The Produce Pod serves as another extension of our Zero Hunger, Zero Waste mission,” says Sparkle Anderson, Corporate Affairs Manager for Kroger. “We’ve been a partner of the Montgomery County Food Bank for many years and are happy to support their efforts to provide more families with nutritionally-rich meal options.'

The launch event will feature a short program with remarks from Kroger and the Montgomery County Food Bank about the functionality of the Pod and how it furthers the mission of both organizations. Attendees will be able to walk inside the fully-operating and stocked Pod to see first-hand how it will become a key resource in the community.
