Cooper Ninth Grade Teams Qualify To Go To State National History Day Contest

THE WOODLANDS, Tx - The John Cooper School competed for the first time in the regional level of the National History Day Contest at Lone Star College-Montgomery on February 23, fielding two teams and both teams qualified to go on to the state level of competition in April.

Ninth graders Isabella Ferber and Brennan Robson chose the topic “Election of Hugo Chávez” to compete in the Exhibit category and placed first. Ninth graders Vanessa Vaz, Omar Fayaz and Chiya Jauhari took first place in the Website category on the topic of “The Bangladesh Liberation War.”

“The theme for this year’s competition that was ‘Triumph and Tragedy in History,” said faculty sponsor Jessica Ozimek. “This was our first experience with this type of contest and I’m very proud of the research, work and presentation skills our students demonstrated. They are now refining their projects to prepare for the state level of the competition to be held in Austin on April 27.”
