THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Boys Division

College Park:

The momentum from the Cavaliers best regular season finish in school history is still going strong. After grinding out a 1-0 victory over Aldine Eisenhower in the Bi-District round, College Park met Cypress Ranch in the Area round at Magnolia High School Tuesday night.

The Mustangs came into the game with plenty of momentum of their own. Cypress Ranch had lost just once in its last 15 games, averaging about 3 goals a game. It was going to be a tough task for College Park, but for the second week in a row, CP pulled off another 1-0 result to advance to the Regional Quarterfinals for the first time in school history. Just like in Round 1, a lone goal from senior forward Mike Dadarria in the 65th minute would be enough to see College Park through to the next round.

Up next for the Cavaliers will be Hendrickson High school, Friday, April 5 at Pridgeon Stadium in Cypress. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Girls Division

The Woodlands:

The Lady Highlanders Bi-District game was a one-sided goal fest. The Woodlands were clearly the better team last Friday when they blanked Spring High School 6-0. Tuesday night versus Hendrickson High School would be a much closer contest, but the end result remained the same. The Highlanders advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals thanks to another clean sheet from the defense and a second-half goal from Grace Henderson, her second of the 2019 playoff run.

The Hendrickson attack seemed to have been heating up at just the right time coming into the match with The Woodlands. The Hawks hit the back of the net eight times in their last two games before failing to find one against The Highlanders on Tuesday. This was the second meeting between both teams in 2019. In January’s meeting, the Hawks and Highlanders battled to a 1-1 draw, so while it may seem like both offenses came back down to earth in Tuesday’s match, a close, low-scoring affair was probably expected by both clubs.

Grace Henderson’s goal will send the Lady Highlanders into a Regional Quarterfinal matchup with District 13-6A runners-up Round Rock High School Friday, April 5 at Bastrop Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Oak Ridge

The Lady War Eagles found their way into the Area round for the first time since 2014 after taking down Aldine in penalty kicks last Friday. Oak Ridge looked to use the boost of a close win to carry them past Round Rock High, but on Tuesday night, the Lady Dragons were just too strong. Round Rock coasted into the next round, beating Oak Ridge 4-0. The War Eagles trailed Round Rock by a goal going into the second half, but a quick rush of goals from the Dragons removed any possibility of another late comeback.
